Elevator!Pitch:!!In!order!to!train!and!consult,!I!feel!that!you!have!to!truly!have!a!passion!for!what!you!

do.!I!have!found!that!passion!in!engaging!employees!and!building!culture!in!

organizations.!It!started!with!my!first!job!in!retail,!where!I!quickly!progressed!to!a!

management!position!and!then!a!position!in!Human!Resources,!because!of!my!desire!

to!increase!employee!engagement!and!build!a!stronger!team.!I!then!moved!into!

Marketing,!but!with!an!employee!engagement!company!who!specialized!in!

healthcare.!This!move!fit!in!perfectly!for!my!job!growth!and!I!gained!a!tremendous!

amount!of!experience!in!both!employee!engagement!as!well!as!building!a!culture!of!

trust!within!an!organization.!After!eight!years!with!this!company,!I!moved!into!an!

internal!and!external!communications!job!in!the!manufacturing!industry,!where!my!

focus!was!on!content!and!driving!engagement!from!both!customers!and!employees.!

With!over!ten!years!of!experience!on!the!subject,!spanning!several!different!

industries,!I!have!decided!to!make!the!leap!into!training!and!consulting.!This!will!

allow!me!to!focus!on!building!employee!engagement!and!culture!in!organizations.!

Being!able!to!help!organizations!better!themselves!and!provide!better!customer!

service!is!gratifying,!rewarding,!and!what!I!feel!I!am!meant!to!do!with!my!career.!!

How!to!Measure!Success:!!Success!can!be!measured!in!various!ways!both!during!and!after!my!training.!One!of!

the!most!obvious!measurements!is!whether!employee!engagement!has!risen!or!not.!

This!measurement!can!be!made!by!asking!employees!to!do!an!annual!survey!that!

measures!their!engagement.!Another!measure!that!can!be!done!during!my!training!is!

measuring!how!effective!the!employees!felt!the!presentation!was.!Ideally!as!I!

continue!presenting,!scores!will!increase.!This!will!mean!I!am!getting!through!to!the!

trainees!and!that!they!are!taking!what!I!am!saying!into!consideration.!A!third!

measure!to!consider!is!whether!or!not!turnover!has!increased!or!decreased!in!the!

company.!Ideally!turnover!will!decrease!as!employee!engagement!increases.!They!

are!directly!related!to!one!another!and!measuring!this!would!be!able!to!show!

whether!or!not!my!training!is!successful.!Finally,!employee!engagement!is!also!tied!to!

customer!service!scores!as!well!as!profits!for!an!organization.!If!these!two!indicators!

are!increasing,!this!would!indicate!that!the!employee!engagement/culture!training!is!

effective.!!

Before&I&begin,&here&is&what&you&can&expect&from&today’s&training&session.&You’ll&receive&a&beNer&understanding&of&what&employee&engagement&is&and&why&it’s&important.&I’ll&give&you&concrete&ways&that&you&can&increase&engagement,&as&well&as&processes&to&know&if&these&ways&are&actually&working.&Then,&I’ll&give&you&a&brief&outline&of&what&you&can&expect&over&the&course&of&my&training&program.&&

Before&we&go&into&the&defini3on,&I’d&like&to&point&out&that&employee&engagement&and&employee&sa3sfac3on&are&two&different&things.&Many&3mes&these&words&are&used&interchangeably&when&in&reality&they&are&not&the&same.&At&the&simplest&level,&sa3sfac3on&is&a&lower&than&engagement.&So,&you&could&be&sa3sfied&with&a&Coke,&for&example,&but&that&doesn’t&mean&you&loved&it&enough&to&con3nue&to&drink&them&all&the&3me.&One&last&thought&on&engagement&before&we&talk&about&the&defini3on:&there&are&many,&many&different&defini3ons,&and&not&one&is&decided&upon&as&the&correct&one.&In&general,&they&all&speak&of&the&employees&connec3on&with&the&organiza3on,&but&the&defini3ons&all&use&different&ways&to&describe&that&connec3on.&For&this&program,&I&pulled&a&defini3on&from&Forbes&“Employee&engagement&is&the&emo3onal&commitment&the&employee&has&to&the&organiza3on&and&its&goals”&(2002).&Engagement&is&more&than&just&employee&happiness.&When&an&employee&is&truly&engaged&not&only&do&they&perform&beNer&but&their&department&performs&beNer,&the&organiza3on&performs&beNer,&and&the&customers&are&more&sa3sfied.&This&segways&in&nicely&to&the&next&item,&on&why&engagement&is&important.&&

There&are&many&posi3ve&outcomes&when&an&employee&puts&forth&extra&effort&for&and&is&emo3onally&connected&to&an&organiza3on.&When&an&organiza3on&has&engaged&employees&they&can&expect&to&see&a&substan3al&percentage&increase&in&profitability&–&anywhere&from&15;22%.&There&is&also&a&decrease&in&employee&turnover.&An&engaged&employee&will&not&leave&if&they&receive&an&offer&for&10%&higher&than&what&they&currently&make.&Because&of&this&decrease&in&turnover,&there&will&also&be&less&training&costs.&When&an&employee&leaves,&it&costs&at&least&double&to&hire&and&train&someone&to&fill&their&posi3on.&Another&posi3ve&outcome&from&engaged&employees&are&the&innova3ve&ideas&that&become&available.&Many&3mes&in&an&organiza3on,&employees&will&not&feel&that&their&voice&is&head,&and&they&will&be&disengaged.&By&building&trust&and&increasing&engagement,&more&employees&will&come&forward&with&ideas&and&solu3ons&to&problems.&They&will&also&no3ce&that&their&employees&are&working&harder&and&more&efficiently.&Engaged&employees&are&21%&more&effec3ve&than&employees&that&show&low&levels&of&engagement&(C;Suite&Analy3cs,&2014).&Finally,&customer&sa3sfac3on&can&be&up&to&10%&beNer&when&employees&are&engaged&and&have&an&emo3onal&connec3on&with&the&company&(C;Suite&Analy3cs,&2014).&&&

Since&I’ve&thrown&a&ton&of&content&at&you&over&the&last&few&slides,&here’s&a&liNle&break!&It’s&funny,&but&also&sends&a&real&message.&You&can’t&build&engagement&by&just&asking&for&opinions,&or&saying&that&an&employees&voice&maNers&–&it&takes&hard&work&and&dedica3on&to&create&an&engaged&workforce.&Let’s&talk&about&how&to&build&engagement&in&your&organiza3on.&

Really,&it&does&all&start&with&you.&As&a&manager,&you&have&to&be&invested&in&the&engagement&of&your&employees&in&order&for&any&ini3a3ve&to&work.&The&leaders&in&your&company&set&the&tone&for&the&en3re&organiza3on.&This&means&that&the&right&managers&need&to&be&hired&for&the&right&reasons.&It&also&means&that&leaders&at&all&levels&of&the&organiza3on&need&to&work&hard&and&communicate&the&same&message&about&engagement,&and&how&important&it&is&to&the&success&of&the&organiza3on.&You&can&begin&to&build&engagement&by&par3cipa3ng&in&annual&employee&engagement&surveys.&At&first,&this&will&be&a&good&baseline&to&see&where&you&stand,&and&even&where&you&stand&compared&to&others&in&your&industry.&Surveys&will&also&give&you&informa3on&on&where&the&organiza3on,&managers,&or&employees&can&improve.&Some3mes&an&organiza3on&may&have&many&issues&on&employee;to;employee&ques3ons&but&liNle&at&the&organiza3onal&level.&Each&organiza3on&is&different,&and&you&have&to&see&the&results&before&you&know&what&to&do&next.&Once&you&get&the&results,&make&sure&you&follow&up&with&ac3on&items.&Include&tangible&steps&on&how&you&are&working&to&fix&certain&issues.&If&there&is&an&issue&that&cannot&be&fixed,&explain&why&and&make&sure&it’s&communicated&throughout&the&en3re&organiza3on.&Communicate&when&steps&have&been&completed,&and&validate&employees&so&they&know&that&their&opinion&counts.&Once&you’ve&completed&a&survey,&it&makes&it&easier&to&define&engagement&goals.&&
