Crude ash content

The crude ash content in dog food is de-termined by heating the product intensely (to approx. 550°). It shows the indigestible value of the materials which remain after the heating. The smaller the percentage of crude ash, the higher the quality of the dog food.

There are both vegetable and animal proteins which are essential. There are constantly claims that vegetable proteins are less valuable than animal proteins. But since it is only the proportion of the aminoacids they contain which is relevant, these claims are not correct. For a healthy

diet both types of proteins should be com-bined to enable utilisation of all the advan-tages of both vegetable and animal proteins. This also makes it possible to achieve an excellent biological value.

So do we still live in the trees and eat bananas? Or do our dogs catch their food themselves every day? In a study by the Swedish geneticist Axselsson it was found that the dog’s genetic development has progressed far from the wolf.

2. Specific supplements only if required. Specific nutritional requirements of indi-vidual dogs should be met by means of supplements offered by specialist stores. No human takes, e.g. calcium tablets they don’t need.
