Code Requirements The Codes Are Clear... In the “North”, building codes require* the use of leak barrier at the eaves—i.e., the area labeled “North”.†

Be Prepared... GAF highly recommends the use of leak barriers in areas where hail, heavy rains, or wind-driven rain are common. Leak barriers help protect against the leaks and damage these storms may cause.

Shingles, Metal, or Tile? Understand Compatibility... Mineral-surfaced leak barriers aren’t recommended for use with metal. They may abrade metal roofing over time, leading to leaks and premature deterioration of the roof covering. Choosing The Right Product… Some leak barriers may react in high heat conditions; some may not support the weight of tile loading.
