Glory To God
Collect:
O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with
great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send
us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior
Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
THE LITURGY OF THE WORD
Reading (seated) Revelation 22:12-14,16-17,20-21
At the end of the visions I, John, heard these words:
"See, I am coming soon; my reward is with me, to repay according to everyone's
work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the
end."
Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they will have the right to the tree of
life and may enter the city by the gates.
"It is I, Jesus, who sent my angel to you with this testimony for the churches. I am
the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star."
Reading (continued)
The Spirit and the bride say, "Come."
And let everyone who hears say, "Come."
And let everyone who is thirsty come.
Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift.
The one who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming soon."
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen.
Gradual Psalm 97: 1-2, 5-6, 9-10, 12
The LORD is King; let the earth rejoice;*
let the multitude of the isles be glad.
Clouds and darkness are round about him,*
righteousness and justice are the foundations of his throne.
The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the LORD, *
at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
The heavens declare his righteousness,*
and all the peoples see his glory.
REFRAIN
Gradual (continued)
Zion hears and is glad, and the cities of Judah rejoice,*
because of your judgments, O LORD.
For you are the LORD, most high over all the earth; *
you are exalted far above all gods.
The LORD loves those who hate evil; *
he preserves the lives of his saints
and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous, *
and give thanks to his holy Name.
REFRAIN
Reader: The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.
People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.
The Gospel John 17:20-26
Jesus prayed for his disciples, and then he said. "I ask not only on behalf of
these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word,
that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they
also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory
that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are
one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the
world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have
loved me. Father, I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be
with me where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because you
loved me before the foundation of the world.
"Righteous Father, the world does not know you, but I know you; and these
know that you have sent me. I made your name known to them, and I will make
it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I
in them."
After the Gospel, the Reader says:
The Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to you, Lord Christ.

ANNOUNCEMENT
Adult Education: Community Conversations
9:00 a.m. Brown Library
Meaningful Conversation in Community requires a willingness to acknowledge
differences, listen deeply & without judgment, face our fears and discomfort, and walk
alongside one another in challenging times. In this socially and politically charged
Easter Season, we are using our Sunday morning Adult Education hour to practice
these skills. Members of the congregation are being invited to bring us pieces of
writing (a poem, an article, a short essay, or an excerpt from a novel) by authors of an
ethnicity or gender or religion or cultural perspective different from their own. We’ll
read these pieces aloud, and then be guided in conversation about them. Join us in the
Brown Library at 9:00 a.m. All are welcome.
Summer Sunday School
For part of the summer, we give our Sunday School teachers a well deserved break.
We rely on new volunteers to make this possible. Sign up to join Parker for a Sunday.
We have great curriculum, and you will have lots of help planning and executing the
lesson. This is a great opportunity to help out without committing to a full year of
service. Sunday School is from 10:00 - 11:15 a.m. in the Community Hall.
Hike for Haiti
Next Saturday, May 14, Eaton Canyon Nature Center
7:00 a.m. registration, 7:30 a.m. hike
The hike raises money for our partner school Ste. Marguerite in LaTournelle, Haiti.
Wear your hiking shoes and bring a water bottle.

Practice the Tithe
Next week on Pentecost Sunday, our Rector, our Vestry and I invite the whole Saint
Mark’s Community to Practice the Tithe. Several parishes in our diocese have
introduced this once-a-year opportunity to try on the spiritual practice of giving 10% of
what we earn to help the church help God’s people. Here’s how it works: All members
and all in worship on Sunday are invited to calculate a week’s worth of their annual
income, and then on that one Sunday, to make a gift of 10% of that income. If you
already give 10% annually, or if you already pledge as much as you are able, we give
thanks for your generosity. You can simply put a note in the Practice the Tithe
envelope giving thanks to God. If you are not already pledging, or if you are a pledging
member somewhere along the journey to the tithe, you are invited to add this one time
10% gift on a week’s worth of income. The additional giving will bring wonderful
blessing. It will of course help the church to balance our budget, and to carry out our
Call To Be More. Alongside these blessings, we hope to know more deeply the joy that
comes when we give to God out of the abundant resources God has given us. (Please
note: Our 9:00 congregation will Practice the Tithe on Sunday, May 22.)

Education for Ministry
Is it your time to discover where your faith meets the needs of your church, your
community and the world?
(.....and would you like a guaranteed night out once a week????)
Education for Ministry invites you to bring forth your unique gifts for a personal
ministry as they are uncovered for you in the study of the Old Testament, New
Testament, Church History (at least the first 3,000 years!) and foundational principles
of theology and philosophy. Through these lenses, EfM guides its learners toward
claiming and developing their ministry gifts for themselves, their family and their
community.
One current learner says, "...the stories come alive through the viewpoints and
discussions among our group members, and the food and fellowship are GREAT! I
have learned so much from fellow EfMer's."
Saint Mark’s has offered EfM for nearly 3 decades. The 4 year program is renewable
each year and we meet 2 hours on Monday nights for about nine months of the year.
Feel free to contact either of our co-mentors or any current learner.

We are collecting NEW books to support Door of Hope in Pasadena. Door of Hope
offers transitional housing to families who are moving from homelessness back to
stability.
We are collecting NEW books for children of this program who have very few books
of their own - a small item, like a new book, can help bring a sense of normalcy.
Please stop by the Door of Hope table at the Book Fair to help us support these
children.
Book Fair Hours:
Thursday, May 12: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Friday, May 13: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
