Land of the Free,

Home of the Brave

We have been doing themed weeks here at Holy Spirit

Retirement Home. ‘Patriotic’ was one of our themes.

Here are a few of our residents showing off their

American pride!

Update on our Spirit of Home Gala Event

Dear Holy Spirit Retirement Home Family, Friends & Community Supporters,

With such an increase in senior resident health illnesses, nursing homes have become the epicenter of the

COVID-19 crisis. The American Health Care Association, the trade organization for most nursing homes, called

the impact on long-term care facilities “devastating.”

While we know that these are times of uncertainty and tension, we know that this has not been business as

usual here at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Hard work and tireless dedication and limitless compassion contin-

ue to be displayed each day here. Our Holy Spirit Health Hero's continue to display acts of courage, selfless-

ness, and genuine caring for those who need the most help during this crisis. Day after day, week after week,

our staff continues to leave the safety of their homes and leave their families to come here to keep our resi-

dents safe, healthy, and strong.

So, it is with deep sadness that we wish to share with you that our largest fundraiser, the “Spirit of Home

Gala Event,” has been cancelled for this year. We felt we had to cancel the event after several of our resched-

uled dates still did not work for being able to celebrate with you. Because of our inability to hold this event to

fundraise for Holy Spirit Retirement Home, our financial needs are ever so deeply needed. The extra money to

provide for additional personal protective equipment, access to testing, one on one activities for residents,

increase salaries for expanded staff, as well as lost revenue for Holy Spirit’s decrease in the ability to admit

new residents because of the outbreak. We are creating the Holy Spirit “Spirit of Home Campaign” to contin-

ue helping our residents at this great time of financial need.

The extent of the larger economic crisis that has been brought on by COVID-19 is broad and deep and un-

likely to ease in the short-term. Forefront in our minds is maintaining our nursing home’s mission– to dedi-

cate all of our energy towards providing spiritual, physical, and emotional support to our residents that call

Holy Spirit home.

We wish to take this time to thank those who have already participated in donating to our Spirit of Home

Gala Event; even though it is cancelled this year, your continued support allows Holy Spirit to continue caring

for those that are in most need.

If you have not been able to make a gift this year, we prayerfully ask that you consider a gift to support all

that we do here at Holy Spirit to support our elderly residents through this Campaign.

Thank you for your support and may God bless you and your family.

Yours in Peace,

Deb Poss, Marketing & Development Director– 712-224-9993

Effective August 1st, Select Rehab will be the company providing physical, occupational,

and speech therapy services to the residents at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Best of luck from our staff with Aegis Therapies. We have enjoyed providing therapy

services to all of the residents throughout the years at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Reminders: Foot Pedals: Before pushing a resident in a

wheelchair, you must make sure their feet are on

the foot pedals. It’s the law. Don’t move residents without them. You can find pedals on the back of the residents’ wheelchair or in their room.

Handicap/Ambulance Parking: At our front entry, there is a spot to be left open for ambulance parking, in case of emergencies, as well as a Handicapped Parking spot. Please keep these spots open if you do not fall in either category.

Guest Meals: Meals are $5.00. Please notify the front office one day before.

Labeling Resident Clothing: When bringing

in resident’s clothing, if possible, place in a bag that can be marked with the resident’s name so that staff can label the clothes for you. Your cooperation is very much appreciated in this matter!

Food for Residents: All food that is brought/kept in resident’s rooms must be completely

sealed and labeled with it’s opening date. Unfortunately, any food items that are not sealed or are outdated will be disposed of. If you need sealed baggies, please contact or visit our dietary department.

Door Codes: In order to keep all of our residents safe, please do not let someone go in or out of a set of coded doors if you do not know them.

Transportation: We are happy to provide transportation for our residents but ask that any family or friends that want to join their loved one at an appointment please provide their own transportation.

Fans: Reminder that we only allow tall, or tower, fans in resident rooms. This is to help in maintaining the safety of our residents.

E-Mails: We need your help in adding email addresses to our contact information. If you currently use/check your email please send the information to [email protected]
