Partner with City of Kingsport – GIS Mapping of Cultural Assets

1. Partnered with City of Kingsport’s Jake White to establish a GIS mapping database of our community’s cultural assets that can be continuously updated and refreshed by our community.

2. Jake has begun the process of mapping all 126 assets now. Recommend future plans include producing a GIS Map with each category displayed as a unique map layer.

3. Future consideration is also being given to create interactive maps (journey maps) that community members can create based on their interests by category or geographic location.

Future Recommendations

• Partner with website developer for site design, maintance, and marketing/communication. (Effort beginning with Elixir Marketing)

• Ensure site is user-friendly and value-added• Example: Click on name under a category and be able to pull up information about the

asset, such as venue, schedule of events, etc.• Include a smart phone application.• Enable users to create personal journey maps based on a category of interests or

geographic locations(s).

• Hire a college summer intern to ensure content is continually added to database.

Future Recommendations – Continued

• Actively seek community input by providing opportunities for site contributions by individuals/organizations.• Example: Have cultural arts organizations write feature articles, start a blog

associated with the website, place videos on the site, have individuals/organizations “self identify” cultural assets, etc.

• Include “You might also like” suggestions when users click on a category or name under a category.

• Identify local partners, such as Move to Kingsport, Community Economic Development group, Chamber of Commerce, local employers, school systems, etc. for collaborative efforts. • Example: Ensure site is linked to City of Kingsport and Chamber of

Commerce websites for maximum visibility and engagement.
