"For wisdom will enter your heart and knowledge will be pleasant to your
soul. Discretion will protect you and understanding will guide you."
Proverb 2:10-11 The twenty first century holds a promise for a bigger, better and brighter future. The scope
for growth is tremendous. All this can be attributed to the technological awakening
witnessed world over. Economic development and equitable social development can propel
any nation towards emerging as a strong power. The delegates at Ryan MUN 2014 should
work together to ensure the welfare of the society by building an attitude of selfless service.
This shall involve awareness of the problems surrounding the world and a responsible
attitude towards solving them. This experience will have a far reaching impact as these
enriched delegates will not just gain knowledge but also emerge as empowered individuals
who dream, create and transform.
God bless you.

“May our sons in their youth be plants full grown, our daughters like pillars cut
for the structure of a palace.”
Psalm 144:12 Dear participants,
I welcome you to the second edition of Ryan MUN 2014. We aim to provide a platform to our
young leaders, where they can negotiate, debate, and deliberate. We see you as future leaders
emphasizing the culture of humanity and tolerance. You all are kings and queens in the making,
who hold the potential to transform the world into a better one by crossing all obstacles that
come in the way of a peaceful society. I congratulate you all on being a part of this conference

"He, who pursues righteousness and love, finds life, prosperity and honor."
Proverb 21:21 A change is setting into every walk of life. The thought process of students has also changed
from mere survival to thriving with excellence. In the positive learning environment that
prevails, it is important to instill into students, a shared perception of life which will draw them
closer to their peers elsewhere, thus promoting a peaceful and harmonious environment where
everyone can co-exist irrespective of their nationality, caste or creed. Ryan MUN 2014 strives to
provide an environment which is congenial to nurturing a thought for a better world, where
there is a happy, healthy and harmonious life. I hope that the delegates emerge as global
citizens-individuals with self confidence who are able to contribute to community life, build
tolerance, accountability and strength to deal with emotional and spiritual quotients.
Best wishes.

Messages from our Mentors.
The DISEC aims at ensuring peace
and establishing stability by helping
countries reach a common decision
regarding world security. The
convened delegates will work as one
to gather all thoughts and opinions
to reach consensus. Can we trust
governments of countries possessing
nuclear capability to protect their
arsenal? Or are these countries
playing host to traders who sell
WPDs as everyday ware? Answers to
these and many more questions of
such sort are anticipated.
From the aftermath of the terrorist
attack at the Karachi Airport arose
questions over the safety of nuclear
weapons. Pakistan, instead of curbing
the violence caused by the militant
groups that they host, seems to have fed
and nourished them. And now, it runs
about trying to handle their adolescent
rebels as the whole world watches. Will
these destabilized nuclear countries
prove to be the reason why the dark
shadow of nuclear armageddon looming
ahead overpowers us all?
With advanced technology and a smaller
world of porous borders, the ability to
unleash mass sickness, death, and
destruction today has reached a far
greater order of magnitude. Illicit
brokers have been instrumental in
transferring weapons and ammunition
to illegitimate users and destinations,
including countries under UN arms
embargo and conflict zones.

Emancipation and Equality: Rights, not favours. Officially, almost all countries in conflict and
post-conflict situations give women the right to
participate in the electoral process. A superficial
glance at the statistics may lead us to believe
that representation of women in such settings is
only slightly worse, if not better than the world
average. Despite many international agreements
affirming their human rights, women have less
access than men to be portrayed equally on the
political forefront and are far more likely to be
victims of domestic violence.
Within conflict afflicted areas, access to justice is further diminuted by war-devastated governmental
infrastructure and increased violence, often forcing girls to get married by the age of 13. Furthermore, wars
lead to refugee camps encompassing about 60% women refugees.
Identifying the multifarious causes and aspects of this issue and deliberating upon ways to address it, a UN
women(United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women) conference will be
held on the 17th and 18th of July. Thought provoking dialogue and debate is anticipated, and hope that the
delegates will not just find significant solutions but commit on behalf of their respective nations to
legislate and put into practice the conclusions that this committee arrives at.
While much has been said about dealing with
gender-based violence in countries undergoing
political transition; mainstreaming the electoral
process, high female voter turnouts and accessibility
of the judicial system remain a pipeline dream.
Will our women ever be able to have
access to justice, combat violence and
fight stereotypes?
Will our women ever experience equality?

OF BORDERS AND BONDAGE.
The modern name of Ukraine is derived from the word ‘Ukraina’, connoting
‘borderland’. Ukraine has for centuries served as the border between Russia
and Europe, physically, over and above, as an ideological conflict. The
situation in Crimea today is largely due to the pull between Western Europe
and Russia. As anticipated, Ukraine again finds itself in the middle.
In late 2013, Ukraine was inching close to economic ties with the European
Union. With Victor Yanukovych assuming office, the projected deal was
abandoned. Ukraine now would be a closer ally of Russia. The streets of Kiev
filled with peaceful protesters calling for Yanukovych to accept the EU offer.
Yanukovych refused; the protests turned bloody; and Yanukovych fled from
Kiev.
An interim government was installed, scheduling elections for May 25th, 2014,
which would have brought about promising outcomes if the Putin regime had
not marched into the Crimean peninsula, their ostensible reason being to
‘protect’ the ethnic Russian inhabitants.
The armed seizure of Crimea is seen through a spectrum of discontent; it is an
invasion of Ukraine’s sovereignty. Hence, the Emergency Security Council of
the United Nations has been convened to take action on the mounting crisis
in Ukraine.

Both men are African-American, which fuels
the controversy that the ICC mainly targets
Africans; all cases till date have been from
African countries.
The Court is now under obligation to
determine the truth of these accusations, and
if required, determine a penalty proportionate
to the enormity of the crimes. It is yet to be
seen how these outcomes will impinge on
international relations, but justice is
imperative.

SEEKING JUSTICE.
The International Criminal court has been set up to
prosecute criminals of war crimes, genocide, crimes
against humanity, and crimes where the national
justice system does not, or cannot suffice.
Charles Blé Goudé, amongst others, has been arrested
for four counts of crimes against humanity, and
another alleged criminal is Bosco Ntaganda, who has
been charged with a summation of eighteen counts of
war crimes, together with five counts of crimes against
humanity.

Holistic dominance.
In the contemporary century, territorial disputes are what apparently demarcate national boundaries.
Land offers a political state the geographical advantages which it requires to tender to its military and
security prerequisites. Intrinsically, disputed regions of Taiwan and Arunachal Pradesh remain to be such
strategic tools for China, transforming the political vendetta to all but an unrestrained utilitarian battle
for land.
The state of China holds on perennially to its version of the One-China Policy, and has a rather hostile
anti-secession dogma. And in that political flavour, the Central Politburo of the Communist Party of
China, which holds the onus of major executive and political decisions of the party, envisages to
reintegrate Taiwan and Indian occupied regions of Arunachal Pradesh, whilst contemplating methods to
reinforce the territorial integrity of Tibet and Xinjiang at this rather historic session.
In essence, these are the two sides of the same coin, bound by the rim of Communist Chinese thought.
One can all but expect this sitting to be of strategic prominence, charting a course which shall shape the
global force of China.

One of the most challenging and pressing tasks
that a nation faces, after being involved in conflict,
is that of virtually reconstructing its economy and
providing an environment conducive to economic
development and fiscal growth. This is
understandably easier said than done, as it
involves the Herculean task of mobilizing the
much disgruntled people of the country;
indisputably its most important resource.
Incautious lending customs, high liquidity and
lack of transparency between the borrowers and
the lenders justify a lot of current mishaps.
PRACTICAL, YET OPTIMISTIC.
Not only does it call for
serious action, it
demands for the need
to re-evaluate the
present methods of
dealing with financial
instruments. There is a

foothold in the economic proceedings of its country.
In view of the aforementioned issues, the Islamic
Development Bank Committee has been set up with
an aim to provide pragmatic and viable solutions to
this problem.
In this meet, the convened delegates shall
pave a path to make financially challenged
countries confident about handling crises,
simultaneously keeping in mind the
Islamic ideals of banking. Only time will
tell whether they are able to convert this
into a fruitful session or we will find
ourselves locked in an abyss of unanswered questions.
