Aftermorethanfiftyyears,flyingpeopleintospaceatopmillionsofpoundsoffireisstillatoughandscarybusiness.Inthemostchallengingphasesofspaceflight,notonlyisthesituationbecomingmorecomplexandsometimesscarier,butit’sdoingsoquickly,requiringincreasinglyrapiddataanalysisandhighlyreliabledecisionmaking.Inthosemoments,leadershipcountsmorethaneverinMissionControl.However,theroleofleadershipinthisdangerousenterpriseisnotthesoleprovinceoftheFlightDirectorintheMissionControlRoom.Infact,akeytoNASA’sMissionControllegacyofbrilliantperformanceisaparticularbrandofleadershipatalllevels,especiallyattheworkinglevel.ThisworkshopwilldescribetheMissionControlbrandofleadership,andhowtomaketheleadershipcultureyourown.Itwillconveythedetailedcharacteristicsthatarelinkedtostrongtechnicalperformanceduringthescariermomentsofmannedspaceflight,andtheirdirectconnectiontotechnicalskillandleadershipdevelopment,managementpracticesandstrategicchangeoutsideofthatroomandawayfromtheon-goingspaceoperations.Thisstartswithabottom-upunderstandingandanswerquestionslike:
