QUESTION 1 HOW WOULD YOU EXPLAIN THE BOARD'S DECISION TO
PURCHASE THE SOFTWARE PACKAGE FROM STANDARD?
The board's decision to purchase the software package from Standard was not the best decision to do and this occurred because ;
• e.g : the board only listen to Jack's opinion just because he is the Facility Administrator of the company whilst Mary is only an Accounting Manager. Jack is practicing availability bias where he tend to base his judgements on information that is readily available to him.
1. They only listen to one side of
story.
• e.g : during the board directors' meeting, they excluded Mary's report. Instead of doing that they should considered report from other departments as well.
2. They did not do further
investigation/ inspection to the
vendors.
Question 2How much power relative to this decision did Mary, Jack and the president of Standard Software possess, and what type of power
was it?
Mary (Legitimate
Power)
She being affected by Legitimate
Power since she considered
after research and reviewing actual use in organization.
Jack (Coercive power)
Sabotaged Mary’s time/ research at
board of directors meeting.
President of Standard Software (Referent power)
Considered vendor after
being pressured from Jack.
QUESTION 3 WHAT COULD MARY HAVE DONE TO GAIN MORE INFLUENCE
OVER THE DECISION?
Besides Jack, Mary should also inform the other board
of directors about the possibility of negative
outcome if used Standard Software System.
Mary should stay firm in attending the next meeting with Jack so that she can explain and present it to the
board of director herself.
Mary should suggest to the board of
director in including the other department
manager in the meeting so that, they
could achieved a better decision.
