2. 1 Tim. 6: 9-10 9 People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 3. Matt. 26: 4141 "Watch and pray so that you will not fall intotemptation. The spirit is willing, but the body isweak." 4. Dictionary.com defines tempt as to entice or allure to do something often regarded asunwise, wrong, or immoral. to attract, appeal strongly to, or invite to render strongly disposed to do something to put (someone) to the test in a venturesome way;provoke (e.g. to tempt ones fate) 5. Temptation is theenticement, allurement orseduction to do Evil acts Immoral acts Sinful acts 6. James 1:13-15JAS 1:13 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. 7. The First Temptation LK 4:1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. LK 4:3 The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread." LK 4:4 Jesus answered, "It is written: `Man does not live on bread alone. " 11. Deuteronomy 8:3-5 3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. 4 Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. 5 Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you. 12. Jesus If You are .. Since You are theSon of God, act like God andresponsecommand these stones be made bread! Man does not live on bread alone. It is written. Jesus uses Scriptures. Here is a principle to live by and I will live by it.The physical is one avenue oftemptation for all of us 13. The Second Temptation LK 4:5 The devil led him up to a high place and showed himin an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6 And he said tohim, "I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it hasbeen given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7 So ifyou worship me, it will all be yours."LK 4:8 Jesus answered, "It is written: `Worship the Lordyour God and serve him only. Gods timing determine to do the right thing, determiningthat in every situation you will worshipGod, and Him only you will serve. 16. The Third TemptationLK 4:9 The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highestpoint of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourselfdown from here. 10 For it is written: " `He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; LK 4:11 they will lift you up in their hands,so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. "LK 4:12 Jesus answered, "It says: `Do not put the Lord your God to thetest. "LK 4:13 When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left himuntil an opportune time. 17. Deuteronomy 6: 16-19 16 Do not test the LORD your God as you did at Massah. 17 Be sure to keep the commands of the LORD your God and the stipulations and decrees he has given you. 18 Do what is right and good in the LORDs sight, so that it may go well with you and you may go in and take over the good land that the LORD promised on oath to your forefathers, 19 thrusting out all your enemies before you, as the LORD said. 18. If [and here we have the if of doubt] You [really]are the Son of God, throw Yourself down.JesusresponseGods people, led out of Egypt and givendemonstration after demonstration of Gods power, ran out of water. At that moment ofpressure they forgot all Gods goodness, and cried, Is the Lord among us or not? (Ex. 17:7) Inquestioning Gods presence and His love, they put God to the test. All the attributes ofhis deity literally ceased when the incarnation occurred.The Logos became a soul residing in the human Jesus. 25. In this time-form Christ no longer had all the attributescommensurate with Deity, though he could usesupernatural powers. 26. One "life center" continued to function consciously in the Trinity while the other became incarnated with human nature, unaware of the cosmic functions of Deity. 27. Your weak points Wanting to eat food that will cause you to feel guiltyafter because you consider it to befattening, unhealthy, or in excess Wanting to buy things you really want even thoughyou dont have the money, or youve already gotenough things and you know you really dont needmore. 32. Your weak points Wanting to yell at someone because youre frustratedand you cant restrain the temptation to lash out. Thiscould be targeted at anyone in your life, including yourpartner, your children, your dog. Wanting to have an affair with someone. Wanting to indulge excessively in alcohol or take illicitdrugs. 33. Your weak points Wanting to give in to sexual urges which that are inappropriate such as viewing pornography, visiting prostitutes, sex before marriage, etc. Wanting to give in to procrastination and laziness. Your vulnerabilities Boredom with your current situation or relationships. Indecision or lack of thought about what you want out of life, your job, your relationships, your future direction. Frustration with the way things are headed in your life, with other people in your life, with yourself. Insecurity and low self esteem 37. Your vulnerabilities Lack of faith in yourself, or in your faith or core beliefs. A need to prove something to other people in yourlife, maybe even as an act of revenge or "evening thescore" (such as having an affair because a spouse hadan affair).
