FROM THE DESK OF

Pastor Ed January 2015

I hope that you all have had a spiritually fulfilling Christmas season.

Now it is time to turn our attention to the future. God has been good to us in 2014 and we trust His blessing will continue into 2015.

By the time you read this we will have said good-bye to some faithful elders and deacons and welcome new ones. One of the strengths of the Presbyterian system is that we rotate officers, bringing fresh ideas and perspectives to the mix. The new elders class of 2017 will be Jim Welander, Jason Smith and Mary Sigler. The new deacons will be Cyndee Sinnott, Janet Cormier, and Linda Marcum. Terri Caldwell will fill Michelle Jackson’s unexpired term.

I am excited about our new leadership team. May this be our best year ever.

We give our grateful thanks for a tremendous year to Shirley Chancellor, Trish Larkin, Janet Brent, Misty Hudson, Tim Larkin, Kim Myers and Michelle Jackson.

The big change for us will be our new worship schedule beginning January 4th. Our two Sunday services will combine into one service at 9:00 am. The format will be primarily contemporary with some traditional elements. The Saturday evening service will remain the same with its primarily traditional format.

I am excited about this change.

This change did not really occur because it has been too difficult to find volunteers for the second service, or that the second service was not family friendly, or that there were too few people, or that there was something “wrong” with traditional worship. Style of worship didn’t really have anything to do with this change. Style of music didn’t do it.

The change was forced by the fact that our energy was split in two directions. We were like two horses in a team pulling in different directions. My hope is that we will once again find a place of strength from which we can grow. If we are to grow as a con-gregation we must do so from a position of strength.

Our church will be arranging the LeRoy Manor Birthday Party

on January 16th at 2 p.m.

Please contact Bobbi Ready at

309-826-4761 or [email protected] if you would be able to

donate a cake.

Change is never easy but with God’s help we can do it.

And you must do your part dear reader. Invite! Invite! Invite! Let others see the good ways God is working here. Tell others about the ways Christ has worked in your life.

Also encourage others to bring their children to join in our Christian Education program. Our programs are about telling the gospel story to kids in a way that they can hear it.

LOOP / LANDING Scavenger Hunt

By Janice Trachsel January 2015

I can’t believe I’m using “2015” already! With every new year we

can expect to make resolutions: Let’s see, “ I’m going to get

organized. “ That’s a good one - I never got that one accomplished.

I don’t even make that resolution anymore. “I’m going to exercise

more.” “I’m going to get my library news to the secretaries on

time.” Still working on those, too. “I’m going to lose weight.” Now

we’re talking! We have THE DANIEL PLAN, Forty Days to a Healthier Life in the library. Check it out. Get a group together

and do it together.

The Monday Morning Bible Study is going to start the Revelation

study. New to the library is the book, AGENTS OF THE

APOCALYPSE by Dr. David Jeremiah. This book explores the book

of Revelation through the lens of its major players: the beast from

the earth, the beast from the sea, the Victor, the King and the

Judge. Each chapter opens with a biblically based dramatization

that brings prophecies to life. Then, in each chapter Dr. Jeremiah

provides a detailed study called “The Scripture behind the Story.”

This is a book you can’t put down.

DECEMBER ATTENDANCE

CALL TO CORPORATION MEETING

By order of the session a corporation meeting will convene

following 9:00 a.m. worship on January 25, 2015. The

purpose of this meeting is to elect directors of the

corporation, review reports from the session, select an

audit committee and to conduct any other business that

might properly come before the congregation. Those

whose names appear on the active member list of the

church as maintained by the clerk of session are eligible to

vote. Voting by proxy is not permitted.

The Monday Morning Bible Study will resume on January 5th at 9:00 a.m.

They will be studying the Book of Revelation using the Tommy Higle study, checking out Old Testament Prophecy. The goal is for everyone to have a better understanding of Revelation. They invite you to join their warm and welcoming group!

The Adult Sunday School class has recently completed a study on Abraham and on January 4th will also begin a study on Revelation. They would love to have you join them!

Two opportunities to learn more about

the Book of Revelation

Happy New Year! I hope and pray your holidays have brought you peace and joy! As we begin this New Year and tuck away Christmas boxes, 2014 Calendars and such, it is the perfect opportunity to look ahead for new possibilities and to aspire for change! One of the greatest decisions I made many years ago was to say “yes” to Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I have never regretted this decision and have made it my mission to share His message of redemption, grace, love and hope with as many as I can. God richly blessed the year 2014 as I was able to witness lives committed to Christ. Would you join me in praying for those who have not yet made this decision, that this New Year would be the year to rock the roof off of our churches and for lives to be transformed by Christ?! Plans are coming together for the upcoming year to offer students as many opportunities as possible to hear, grow and respond to God’s voice. Some of these plans include weekly Sunday morning and mid-week ministries (LEAP, LOOP, Livin’ It and Landing). These weekly opportunities allow the students the opportunity to fellowship with friends while engaging in lessons of Scripture, prayer and personal connection. Additional upcoming opportunities include Super Start (grades 4-6, more information to be released soon), summer camps -The Great Escape (grades 6-7) and Student Life (grades 8-12) and of course one of our favorites for all kids - VBS: Go Fish-Backstage with the Bible 2015! The New Year is a great opportunity to pray and seek Christ! Look for opportunities to invite those who don’t know Jesus and share His love! After a long, cold winter and springtime finally arrives it offers such a breath of hope! That same hope is available to us today and only with Christ-Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Cor. 5:17)
