Le Banyan de Pondicherry Engineer-ing College is a charitable non profit-able organization established by alum-ni of Pondicherry Engineering College. This Organization was officially regis-tered as a Society on 25th November, 2016 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 with the S.No:473/2016. The membership in this Society is open to all PEC alumni and staff members of Pondicherry Engineering College are invited to join.

Le Banyan de PEC aids education, wel-fare of PEC students and non PEC stu-dents. Le Banyan de PEC’s main ob-jectives are: Promouvoir PEC-pals, Education, Woman Empowerment, Welfare, Environment and Nature Gardening. Education:-- To offer educational allowance every semester for deserving PEC students. -- To sponsor examination fees for deserving PEC students identified by Dr.E.Srinivasan, Professor, PEC.-- To conduct Career Awareness Pro-gramme for PEC students-- To provide internships to PEC stu-dents during vacation. --To conduct technical quiz for PEC students by alumni.--To offer Career guidance for all cours-es under CENTAC administration. Woman Empowerment:--To aid women to come out of their closed world and realize their esteem.--To create awareness on “Transforma-tion in this world is possible only with the help of women”.--To create an awareness about the importance of mental and physical strength of the women.-- Healthy women are the driving force for a healthy world.

Welfare:-- To offer Lunch token and Bus fare for deserving PEC students identified by Dr.E.Srinivasan, Professor, PEC.-- To offer assistance in filling online ap-plication for CENTAC admission -- To offer assistance for blind school opposite to PEC campus-- To celebrate birthdays at orphanages-- Healthy Living – Yoga for Youth Em-powerment. To encourage yoga among students for healthy living.Environment:-- To help keep the PEC campus Clean & Green-- To offer help in creating a recycle plant inside PEC-- To determine the quality of drinking water in PEC and recommend treatment plant to college management. Nature Gardening:-- To setup an organic farm and promote growing GMO free vegetable and create awareness among public -- To distribute fruit tree saplings and long term trees to PEC students and staffs on special occasions-- To plant tree saplings inside PEC to promote green environment-- To distribute fruit bearing tree sap-lings to women self help group to pro-mote green environment also helps them to provide some financial aid. -- To promote green environment and to protect our mother earth.

Le Banyan de PEC will create a Corpus fund with the additional contribution re-ceived from members. Corpus funds will be maintained as fixed deposit and re-turns from investment will be deposited into the operating account. Corpus funds will ensure Pet projects to continue be-yond our times. As funds are available additional Pet projects will be consid-ered.

At every governing body meeting Joint secretaries will present the proposed projects . The governing council will se-lect the projects that will be executed in the next quarter. Project selection, cost and up-to date project expense will be available via google docs and will be updated on a bi-weekly basis or as and when the information is available.

Le Banyan de PEC ensures a proper proj-ect monitoring and an event report will be provided by the Joint Secretary after every event. In every Governing body meeting, the completed projects from the previous quarter will be reviewed. Co-Secretaries will ensure continuous upkeep of the completed projects.

Le Banyan de PEC follows an open book policy and maintains its accounts online @ google documents available to all its members. The account status will be available to members round the clock. Le Banyan de PEC will operate at minimum over head. The balance sheet will be pre-sented at the governing body meeting every 3 months and will be shared with all members of Le Banyan de PEC.

Newsletter with information about com-pleted projects in the previous quarter and upcoming events will be presented at every governing body meeting. News-letter will be updated with new projects that are approved and will be circulated to the members via email.

The First Stepping Stone The first governing body meeting of Le Banyan de PEC held on 17.12.2016 at hotel Abhi Krishna, Reddiyar palayam, Puducherry between 6.00 PM and 9.00 PM. The members of the governing body members gathered to discuss about the agenda of first govern-ing body meeting. Mrs. Kalpana Ramanujam welcomed the office bearers, executive members and members of the governing body.

The President Dr. T.G. Palanivelu, Former Principal, PEC, present-ed the presidential address. The Vice-president Dr. D. Govindaraju-lu, Former Principal, PEC addressed the gathering. He insisted on the training programmes, internships for PEC students and increas-ing the count of alumni interaction programmes in the campus. He also suggested that nothing should be given at free of cost. Prof. Nalini, Pondicherry University, was inducted as the advisor of the association in the women empowerment section. She suggested add-ing men and boys for women empowerment, De-addiction aware-ness program as part of women empowerment. She advised to have awareness programs on women health, personal hygiene, legal aware-ness and livelihood empowerment through training programmes. Mr. Murugaram, Deputy Commissioner Central Excise and Service Tax, Puducherry suggested some of the programmes which could support Banyan in a long run. He also insisted that the NGO of PEC students should be unique compared to others and we should apply the appropriate Engineering skills in all our endeavors. The projects

The Village Visit

The Members of Le Banyan along with Prof. Dr. E. Srinivasan met the executive leader Mrs. Girija of M.S. Swaminathan Foundation on 10th January 2017 and discussed about the activities that are needed for the village people. The needs of village knowledge centre and the roles of village knowledge workers were ex-plained by the executive. The small projects like waste management in schools, upgradation of village libraries, village sports infrastructure were also addressed and discussed by the members.

MEET & GREETOn 7th February 2017, Le Banyan launched the first project “MEET and GREET” the birthday function for the children of Udhavi Karangal, a special home for street children. Le Banyan members along with Prof. E. Srinivasan greeted the children who have birthdays in the month of January. The home provides care for 163 boys and 83 girls. The children enjoyed the celebration and had lot of fun with the PEC Volunteers.

Mr. Vengat Peroum-al, Vice President - Administration from US, joined the meeting via skype. Few members of Le Banyan from vari-ous part of the globe joined the call.

Discussion with Dean

On 10th January 2017, the Members of Le Banyan met the Principal, Pondicherry Engineering College and presented a detailed calender of events which will be operated in the cam-pus for the next three months for PECPALS. The college au-thorities, Dr. K. Vivekandhan, Professor, Computer Science and Engineering, Dean(Students), arranged the special Meet-ing with the members of Le Banyan and addressed the events which can be colloborated with the clubs and NSS of the col-lege. The meeting ended with a list of events which will be beneficial for the students in the next three months.

Clean & GreenLe Banyan de PEC along with NSS cell have organized Clean and Green programme on 26.01.2017 . This event is a great advocacy activity that helps to educate student’s community about the Green environment and impact of plastics in the campus. The saplings of FICUS plant variety was sponsored by our community. With the help of Horticulture department, PEC, 70 Saplings were planted along the entrance gate of PEC. The Prrincipal, Dean & Associate(Students), Dean & Associ-ate(Administration), faculties from various departments, NSS Coordinators, Le Banyan de PEC office bearers, Non teaching staffs and students have joined hands in the plantation drive. CAP: Career Awareness Programme

Le Banyan de PEC in association with Counsel-ling and Career Guidance Cell(CGCC) organ-ised awareness programme on “My Journey to USA” for higher education and the employment avenues in US at Centre of Continuing Educa-tion, PEC on 27th January 2017. Mr. Prasanth, B. Tech (2011 - 2015) an alumni of Pondicherry Engineering College pursuing M.S in Electri-cal Engineering at University of Southern Cal-ifornia, Los Angeles, addressed the gathering of thrid year and final year B.Tech students of all branches. He shared his experiences and the process of seeking admission into top ranked US Universities. He emphasized on pursuing higher education in US and the ample job op-portunities in US.

Le Banyan de PEC in association with Counsel-ling and Career Guidance Cell(CGCC) organ-ised awareness Programme on “Entreprenur-ship” at Centre of continuing Education , PEC. Mr. Regi Mathews, B. Tech(1995) an alumni of Pondicherry Engineering College delivered the speech on working with limited capital resources and time. The constraints were high, so it seems difficult, but it actually drives greater degrees of innovation. He initialy worked as a Market-ing Engineer for Aireff Detox in New Delhi, a company that specializes in Treatment plant till 1998. Then he started a organization named Tal-team in 2011 and he is the CEO. Talteam makes INC 500 list as the 70th fastest growing comany in the US, 5th fastest grwing in Washington DC.

Le Banyan de PEC in association with Coun-selling and Career Guidance Cell(CGCC) or-ganised awareness Programme on “Prepara-tions for Civil Service as a Career Option” by Mr. Muruguram IRS, Deputy Commissioner (Customs, Central Excise, Service Tax) - 2002 B.Tech alumni. Final year students benefited from the presentation. This included filling up of a questionarire by the aspirants to know their level of awareness about socio-econom-ic issues in the society and the level of interest towards civil services. Close to 80 serious as-pirants contacted Mr. Muruguram directly and he is planning to arrange separate workshop on later date. He also stressed the importance and values needed in students to get into civil services and be purposeful to the society.

Nutrition and Healthy Life & Healthy LivingOn 17.02.2017, Dr.E.Sujindra, Asst. Prof. Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynaecologist, Indra Gandhi Medical College, Puducherry addressed the first year girls stu-dents of PEC on the mentioned title. Around 165 girls from all the departments participated in the program. The importance of Nutrition & health and its impact on a long term were presented to the girls. The different menstrual complications were explained in detail, also behavioural and mental importance were emphasized to the students. The students interacted with the doctor for about half an hour and clarified their problems per-

sonally. A Parallel Programme for boys was held at Auditorium Dr. M. Ezhilarasan, Professor, Department of Information Technology, PEC taught Pranayama to students and gave a lecture on healthy life living. Le Banyan de PEC co-organized this event along with health and hygiene club.

International Women’s Day CelebrationOn 08.03.2017, The Women’s cell along with Le Banyan de PEC distributed fruit bearing trees to all women staff and girls students on the occasion of International Women’s Day celeberation. This event is a great advocacy ac-tivity that motivates women about tree plantation and green environment. The 350 saplings of various fruit bearing varieties like Gooseberry, Sapota, Amla, Green apple, Pomegranate, Jack fruit, etc., sponsored by Le Banyan de PEC were distributed. Also 500 awareness pamphlets were issued to all women staff and girls students of PEC.

On 15.03.2017, Dr. Rachna Singh, IPS Officer, Superintendent of po-lice(North), Puducherry, addressed the final year UG and PG girls students of PEC. Around 100 students attended the programme. The guest demon-strated some of the preventive act to be followed during difficult times as well educated the girls how to deal with suicidal thought, emotional think-ing, depression, cybercrime etc., She also narrated some of the live cases. The program was a different experience for all of us and Dr. Rachna singh inspired many students.
