A 1991 survey found if 100 males are baptized at eight, then:

79 are ordained deacons at 12

    70 become teachers at 14

58 are ordained priests at 16

32 are ordained to the Melchizedek Priesthood at 18

Active members defined as being baptized and attending church at least

    once every six weeks

1991 survey reported 60 to 80 percent of deacons intend to serve

    missions

Once age of 16 or 17 is reached, intent to serve drops to 55 percent

    Factors that might discourage full-

    time mission participation:

    monetary concerns, health

    problems, difficulty to meet high

    missionary standards, putting off

    school and career plans or

    possible other reasons

We also need to know what the

requirements are to be considered an

    active member of the church.

It would also be nice to know how

    current church leaders encourage

young men to go on missions

depending on age groups the young

    man may be in.

percent and if this trend continues, the need formissionaries will continue to increase and the Churchwill not be able to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to

    Message

Serving a mission for the LDS church is an opportunity that should not be overlooked.

Those young men who serve missions leave as boys and return as responsible, refined and

experienced men. What better way for young men to develop and polish their study skills,

personal relation skills and independence than by serving Gods children worldwide?Although your son will leave home for two years, a mission will strengthen your son and
