Know the Facts Take Action Save Green

We’re all feeling the heat. The last days of July and the

month of August are usually considered the hottest in Texas.

But when those dog days last the entire summer, we’re all looking

for ways to stay cool without creating high utility bills.

Remember, energy conservation doesn’t have to mean installing

expensive equipment or undergoing major renovations.

Making small and simple changes at home is one way

to help manage your electric bill.

Energy conservation matters. Start at home with these no-cost, low-cost tips to save energy and money:

Help your A/C. Set the thermostat at 78 degrees (F) and clean or replace filters monthly. Adequate insulation and properly sealed air leaks will help your air conditioner run more efficiently. Also, raise your thermostat to 80 degrees (F) or higher if leaving for more than four hours.

Keep it Moving. Use ceiling or portable fans when you occupy a room to feel 4 to 6 degrees cooler. Open windows during the cooler parts of the day when there is a breeze to shorten the amount of time you might otherwise run your air conditioner.

Stay Cool Inside. Close shades and blinds to keep heat out. Use the microwave instead of the oven or stove when possible. Air-dry dishes by opening the door of the dishwasher rather than running the dry cycle.

Put it Off. Postpone activities requiring high electricity usage between 3 and 7 p.m. when demand is at its highest.
