■ Description
The LCM series is a microproces-sor-based, type 4 controller for Omron STI 4700 series safety light curtain transmitters and receivers. Its fast response time permits the associated transmitters and receiv-ers to be mounted closer to the machinery pinch points, resulting in increased productivity.
Two enclosure styles are avail-able: an IP20-rated, DIN-mount box with removable terminal blocks or an IP65-rated, lockable metal enclosure.
Both feature a two digit numeri-cal display which assists in rapid installation and troubleshooting.
DeviceNet OptionDeviceNet™ allows the LCM
controller to communicate non-safety related data across this popular fieldbus. As the de facto standard for factory fieldbus communications, DeviceNet™ is widely employed in the automo-tive, semiconductor and other industries.
Monitoring of a DeviceNet™ equipped light curtain provides the process control system with the following non-safety informa-tion: manufacturer; product name; operating mode; detection zone status; solid-state safety status; MPCE monitoring enabled/dis-abled; floating blanking active/inactive; exact channel select ac-tive/inactive; transmitter, receiver, controller, and relay faults; error codes and descriptions.

MicroSafe MCF4700 and MCJ4700 Response Times
The MCF and MCJ can have up to four segments. It is possible for each segment to have a different minimum object resolution.
Step 1 – Determine the number of beams in each segment using Tables 1, 2 or 3**
Step 2 – Use the formula below to determine response time.
**Note: The total number of beams in a system cannot exceed 192.
Use this formula to determine the response time:(total # of beams x 0.103763) + 6.181 =
the response time in msec.
MCF4700 Example:MCF47-12200-301800-20300
This unit has three segments, a 12 mm resolution of 200 mm length, a 30 mm resolution of 1800 mm length and a 20 mm resolution of 300 mm in length. Table 1 shows 32 beams for the 12 mm segment, Table 3 shows 84 beams for the 30 mm segment and Table 2 shows 28 beams for the 20 mm segment. The total number of beams is 32 + 84 + 28 = 144.
From the formula:(144 beams x 0.103763) + 6.181 = 21.2 ms
