LCM Recovery System
Technical Overview
Environmental Dri l l ing Solutions (EDS) has developed a proprietary LCM Recovery System which can be
used to recover and reuse lost circulation material . This reduces operators' costs of LCM, and maintains
LCM concentrations in the dri l l ing flu id to help improve wel lbore integrity.
The EDS LCM Recovery System consists of either a single auger tank with 100 bbl capacity (85 bbl working
capacity) , or a dual auger tank with 195 bbl capacity (180 bbl working capacity) .
LCM Recovery System Overview
The auger tank accepts the ful l flow from the wel l bore by bypassing the rig mounted shale shakers. By-
passing the rig shakers to the EDS auger tank al lowing al l LCM to remain in the active mud system.
Dri l l ing flu id flows back into the active rig pits through the equal izer l ine from the auger tank back to the
active system.
Zero agitation in the tank al lows the cuttings removed from the wel lbore to fal l out of the mud system and
to the bottom of the tank.
Cuttings that fal l to the bottom of the tank are then removed with the augers.
Cuttings can be conveyed to the reserve pit or trucks to be hauled from location.
To conserve valuable dri l l ing flu id , the cuttings can instead be conveyed to an EDS vertical dryer or EDS
drying shakers.
Effluent from the vertical dryer or drying shakers can be centrifuged and returned to the active mud
system.
How It Works
By uti l izing the EDS LCM Recovery System we
minimize the need to pump and dump to
control dri l l ing flu id weight and sol ids content
Since cuttings are continuously being removed by
the auger tank there is no need to jet active rig
pits to remove cuttings due to bypassing the rigs
shale shakers
By minimizing the amount of dri l l ing flu id that is
dumped to jet pits, the amount of fresh dri l l ing
flu id that is bui l t on location is minimized
Retaining the LCM in the active dri l l ing flu id
system minimizes the amount of new LCM that
needs to be mixed to keep the needed
concentration
Reduces overal l waste generated at the wel l site
Reduces costs and l iabi l ity associated with haul -
off trucking for off-site disposal
Reduces the size of reserve pits needed to hold
dumped volume and cuttings
Reduces the amount of time and money spent on
cleaning cuttings from active mud pits
