IMPACTLANCASTER COUNTY experienced many successes in 2015. We saw a drop in our unemployment rate and several expansions and grand openings, and we were recognized once again for our business climate and quality of life by national media sources. For this success and broad impact, it required the entire business community working together, and your Chamber was at the table throughout the last year helping to build those relationships and foster dialogue with others to ensure a prosperous community for all.

OUTCOMESIn 2015, THE LANCASTER CHAMBER was instrumental in helping individuals, companies and the community succeed through our various initiatives, programs and resources. We began conversations on growing a thriving tech community. We addressed community issues measured in the Prosperity Indicators report, like affordable housing, a qualifi ed workforce and early childhood education, and we advocated on behalf of you and your business at the local, state and federal levels.

But, don’t just take our word for it! Check out how members of the business community were impacted by our scope of work in 2015.

LEADING

Altogether, [Leadership Excellence] allowed me to truly connect and network with some of the area’s fi nest thinkers and leaders. I was able to carry what I learned into the workplace and apply it to real-life situations. I recommend The Lancaster Chamber’s Excellence Exchange Program to anyone who is interested in continuing their personal and professional growth, as well as brushing shoulders with some of Lancaster’s fi nest.

EMMALEE MCGUIGA, SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER Listrak, Inc.

The Treer Group has partnered with The Chamber for the past two years to offer the New Manager Academy. We have graduated over 100 participants and look forward to the next two courses in 2016. In addition to helping develop stronger leaders in area businesses, this program has provided broad exposure for The Treer Group and made us more well known to area businesses. This has led to a number of engagements with individual companies and organizations. The Chamber’s reach and reputation are unmatched in the area, and we are proud to work together to enhance local success and prosperity.

JANET TREER, OWNER The Treer Group

I feel strongly that I must add my voice to those of small business owners who, like me, want to maintain control of the businesses we have worked hard to build. It’s often said that politics are a contact sport – we have to get involved if we are to make a positive impact on our businesses and the business community in which we operate.

CONNECTING

I have made some amazing connections through YPN, and one of the positive experiences I had was [at the YPN Holiday Social]. I met some professionals that evening, and they suggested that I should talk to a successful local food business after knowing that I, too, had a food company locally. I emailed the business owners, and to my surprise they replied promptly and agreed to meet with me. I would not have had such great connections without coming to YPN. I highly recommend anyone to take advantage of their Lancaster Chamber membership and its programs like YPN.

LIXI JI AY, OWNER Ebenezer Wholistic Foods

The Lancaster Chamber has been instrumental to the success of our fi rm. The Chamberhad provided us the opportunity to establish new business relationships within the local community as well as critical support to allow our business to grow and prosper.

CRAIG KAZDA, VICE PRESIDENTOF OPERATIONS Quantum Dynamix

““

When someone opens a small business they are usually passionate and knowledgeable about what they are making and selling. It’s interesting to talk to the owners and learn more when shopping in their stores. I like supporting small businesses that give back to the community as well. Shopping local is an important piece of being part of a community and helping the local economy thrive.

INNOVATING

“The Chamber’s leadership and work on the Prosperity Indicators initiative has heightened awareness among business and community leaders about the challenges and opportunities facing Lancaster County. We are proud to partner with The Chamber, and our other Prosperity Indicators partners, on this initiative and recognize that our collaborative approach is helping to engage others and make a true impact locally. Thanks to The Chamber for your continued work in building a prosperous community.

SAM BRESSI, PRESIDENT & CEO Lancaster County Community Foundation

“We have had great success using the BRS databases offered through The Lancaster Chamber. The program has improved our target marketing on both a large and small scale. It is also a great value, enabling us to pull the information ourselves rather than having to pay a third party.

JOE LEGENSTEIN, VICE PRESIDENT Certifi ed Carpet

Participating on The Chamber’s Envisioned Future Task Force [aninnovative think tank designed to identify and craft solutions that will impact the Lancaster County business community] has been a rewarding experience for me. The interactions of the Task Force embody for me what the ‘new’ Chamber will be to the businesses of Lancaster County in the future. I formed relationships with business owners and professionals that I would not have developed without sitting around the table. Oh, and one more thing – I have received business directly from my serving on this Task Force.

ENVISIONINGOURFUTUREThe Lancaster Chamber of Commerce & Industry is at one of the greatest moments of transition in the history of the organization. This statement is bold, no doubt. It will test our ability to be nimble, open to change and take risks. But, we are confi dent that if we all keep an eye toward the future, we have an opportunity to create a thriving community and a Chamber that is creating the environment and facilitating partnerships that impact your success and ensure community success.

Last year, under the leadership of Board Chair Bob Macina, executive vice president of Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine, we embarked on a journey in which we took a hard-look at ourselves through a strategic planning process designed to ensure we are consistently delivering value to business. And, this year, we are taking what we’ve learned and transforming our way of thinking, engaging and acting.

Throughout the year, we will be transitioning to a new business model that will evolve from a traditional dues model to an investment model where you can invest in yourself, your business and/or your community. We will also unveil a new mission, vision and value proposition, and build a dynamic environment to foster collaboration and improve business and community engagement throughout Lancaster County.

This year we will also see The Chamber and our four partners, Economic Development Company of Lancaster County, Lancaster City Alliance, Leadership Lancaster and Business Group on Health, move into a new and dynamic building designed to serve the community’s business needs for years to come. We will increase our professional development with programs like the New Managers Academy alumni program; enhance our online training and video capabilities; bolster networking opportunities; grow our business-building products and services with a new quarterly business publication and community calendar; offer solutions-oriented think tanks and events; enhance our Think Local initiative; further collaborate and focus on our Prosperity Indicators; and more. No small agenda, for sure. But working together, we are confi dent we will deliver.

As this Annual Report attests, last year set the stage for increased impact, collaboration and County-wide solutions in 2016. This year, we intend to build upon that strength and success and create access to accelerate ideas, opportunities and solutions.

In short, we have the ability to make an even greater impact on Lancaster County thanks to your continued support.

Please take a few minutes to read the Envisioned Future Blueprint included with the report to learn how you can invest in yourself, your business and our community. And thank you for continued support.
