  • 1. 3His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly lifethrough our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory andgoodness. 4Through these he has given us his very great and preciouspromises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; andto goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8For if you possess thesequalities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffectiveand unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9Butwhoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that theyhave been cleansed from their past sins. 10Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm yourcalling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,11and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of ourLord and Savior Jesus Christ.2 Peter 2:3-11

Genesis 18:1-16 The Three Visitors18 The LORD appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sittingat the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. 2 Abraham looked up and saw threemen standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent tomeet them and bowed low to the ground.3 He said, If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord,[a] do not pass your servant by. 4Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under thistree. 5 Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on yourwaynow that you have come to your servant.Very well, they answered, do as you say.6 So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. Quick, he said, get three seahs[b] of thefinest flour and knead it and bake some bread.7 Then he ran to the herd and selected a choice, tender calf and gave it to a servant, whohurried to prepare it. 8 He then brought some curds and milk and the calf that had beenprepared, and set these before them. While they ate, he stood near them under a tree.9 Where is your wife Sarah? they asked him. There, in the tent, he said.10 Then one of them said, I will surely return to you about this time next year, andSarah your wife will have a son. 16. Genesis 21:1-621 Now the LORD was gracious to Sarah as he hadsaid, and the LORD did for Sarah what he hadpromised. 2 Sarah became pregnant and bore a sonto Abraham in his old age, at the very time Godhad promised him. 3 Abraham gave the nameIsaac[a] to the son Sarah bore him. 4 When his sonIsaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcisedhim, as God commanded him. 5 Abraham was ahundred years old when his son Isaac was born tohim.6 Sarah said, God has brought me laughter, andeveryone who hears about this will laugh withme. 17.
