lubricated ball bearingmotor is not exposed toheat, lint or moisture.

Uses less power than a 50watt light bulb.

Install and plug-in. Pressure and tempera-ture sensors self calibrate to automati-cally sync the Booster Fan operation withyour clothes dryer operation.

Status Panel confirms proper Booster Fanoperation while the dryer is running andalerts user to duct blockage, fan failureand excessive exhaust temperatures. TheBooster Fan will deactivate if excessivetemperatures are detected.

Duct lengths are commonly stated in equivalentfeet. Most residential clothes dryers are rated fora maximum exhaust duct length of 25 equivalentfeet. At 25 equivalent feet or less the dryer’sblower can maintain a proper exhaust velocity toefficiently dry the load of clothing and exhaust lintto the outdoors.

With 4 inch duct, 90 degree elbows are equivalentto 5 feet of straight duct resistance. Three elbowsand 10 feet of straight duct are equal to the 25equivalent foot limit, so it is very easy to exceedthe maximum duct length.

Elbows connected to elbows chokes exhaust flow.

Gravity fights moist, lint-laden exhaust invertically run, roof terminated ducts.

Give your dryer duct a boost byadding a Tjernlund LB2 Reduce lint build-up and duct cleaning. Save energy, reduce drying times by up to 50%. Boost exhaust velocity in ducts up to 150equivalent feet long.

Modulating Dryer DuctBoosters for Laundromatsand Laundry RoomsCommercial clothes dryers work best when they are ductedindividually to the outdoors. For facilities with many dryersthis means multiple holes cut through the wall or roof whichis expensive initially and creates many potential points ofmoisture entry into the building envelope.

One solution is to exhaust multiple dryers into a single duct andtermination. But this solves one problem and creates another.Depending on the number of dryers operating there will bewide swings in the exhaust velocity, reducing dryer efficiencyand causing excessive lint formation in the ducts and facility.

Our COP-Series controllers measure pressure within the com-mon duct and modulate our Commercial Dryer Duct Boosterfans to match exhaust volume changes. This helps each dryeroperate more efficiently and keeps lint suspended within theduct until it is exhausted outdoors.

With IEK8 In-LineElbow Kit installer cankeep exhaust vent ona straight line.

Clamshell designallows easy accessfor inspection ofduct and blowerwheel.

All Tjernlund Dryer Duct Boosters feature materialhandling blower wheels to eliminate lint buildupwithin the blower housing, reducing maintenanceto a minimum.

5

Dryers operate most efficiently when exhaustvelocities between 1200-2200 feet-per-minute(FPM) are maintained. The number of co-ducteddryers operating, exhaust fan model selectionand the diameter and length of the commonexhaust duct can dramatically affect exhaustvelocity. Follow the recommendations below tomaximize the efficiency of the Tjernlund exhaustsystem and connected dryers.

Commercial Dryer Booster Selection and Duct Sizing Table

Selecting the proper commercial Dryer Duct Booster duct size

Important Common Manifold Construction RecommendationsAlways install a capped length of straight pipe at least 1 pipe diameter long behind the dryer farthestfrom the exhaust termination for a stable place to measure exhaust pressure.

Always connect individual dryers to the common manifold using wye connectors pointed towards theexhaust termination. Do not use straight tee connections.

Over sizing the exhaust manifold will reducevelocities and allow more opportunity for lint todrop out of the exhaust stream. Undersized or ex-cessively long exhaust manifolds will increase dryingtime and operating costs. COP controller set pointadjustments will allow velocities to be fine tuned.

Contact Tjernlund Tech Service for advice on applications outside the boundries of this table.

1. Based on the CFM total for all connecteddryers find the Total Dryer CFM value in the leftcolumn of the table equal to or greater thanthat CFM and determine the common manifoldminimum or maximum duct diameter.

2. Trace to the right to select the Dryer Boosterand determine the maximum equivalent lengthof common duct based upon your choice of ei-ther the minimum or maximum duct diameter.

Example: 4 Dryers @ 225 CFM/ea.4 x 225 = 900 Total Dryer CFMMinimum duct diameter at 900 CFM is 9 inchesMaximum duct diameter at 900 CFM is 12 inches

Installing a common duct sized between 9” and 12”is the optimal size range for maintaining a propervelocity across all operating conditions. Trace to theright to select the Dryer Booster and maximumequivalent feet of common duct based on yourduct diameter choice.
