L AZY DAY S VILLAGE www.LazyDaysVillage.com September 2019 EDITOR: Judy Young - (239) 652-0411 EMAIL: [email protected] FROM YOUR ROLDI PRESIDENT Well, the summer rains are upon us. Daily showers have made all the lawns nice and green and with that comes extra lawn mowing!! Grass on the streets is dangerous. When mowing your lawn (or have someone doing it for you) PLEASE be sure that the grass clippings are not left in the street. It has been observed that residents on bicycles have fallen or nearly fallen on grass clippings. (Ed. Note: Info from LDPOA) Our Labor Day Potluck, on Monday, September 2nd will again feature Publix chicken. Sorry, no hot dogs or hamburgers this time. Set up will be at Noon on the day of the potluck. Bring your place settings and a dish to pass. (Desserts should be at the hall by 4:00 p.m.) Guests are welcome for $5.00 payable at the door. There are sign-up sheets in both halls. Last day to sign up will be August 30th. Thank you in advance to all who help with set up and clean up. You are appreciated more than you know. The calendars for the 2019-2020 Season are included in this issue of the Village News. Your Activities Committee has been hard at work all summer finalizing the year’s events and, while it looks complete, please be aware that these dates and events are subject to change. As in the past, the calendar for each month will be printed for that month. We hope everyone is enjoying their summer, wherever you are and you will all be fully rested when you return to Lazy Days. FROM YOUR ROLDI PRESIDENTWell, the summer rains are upon us. Daily showers have

made all the lawns nice and green and with that comes extra lawn mowing!! Grass on the streets is dangerous. When mowing your lawn (or have someone doing it for you) PLEASE be sure that the grass clippings are not left in the street. It has been observed that residents on bicycles have fallen or nearly fallen on grass clippings. (Ed. Note: Info from LDPOA)

Our Labor Day Potluck, on Monday, September 2nd will again feature Publix chicken.

Judy Young, President ROLDI

LDPOA NEWSOur security cameras (16 of them) in the community

are up and running. They are located at the storage area on Sun Up, South and North Halls, the Gazebo area, front entrance area and the office. Signs are posted. Just one more step in increasing the safety of our community.

A new water dispenser has been installed in South Hall to replace the old drinking fountain. It has both hot and cold water. Be careful as the hot water is very hot.

Want to learn a new, fun sport? Bocce is a form of lawn bowling. It is not physically taxing, and lots of fun. The new carpet has been installed on the Bocce Court, and when the lines are painted, it will be ready for use. It looks really nice.

HURRICANE SEASON IS UPON US!Here are some tips from U.S. Mobile Home:1. Make a mental (or even better, physical) note of all

the most important items (don’t forget documents) that you need to take with you in case of an evacuation and have a strategy for transporting them. This includes medication and pets.

2. The best thing to do in case of a hurricane is to pack up your things and go! Mobile homes are very vulnerable to hurricane damage. Many homes will be completely destroyed either by the winds, floods or blowing debris.

3. You should never, ever, ever attempt to ride out a hurricane, not in a stick-built home and definitely not in a mobile home. They are just too unpredictable, and there are too many possible dangers involved.

4. Many people refuse to heed the warning signs and try to stick things out with their home until the end. We understand it can be hard to accept the loss of your home that’s filled with all your prized possessions and memories. However, it’s important to keep the perspective that nothing is more important than the lives of you and your family. We hope these hurricane safety tips help you prepare and stay unharmed.

Doors • Low-E Windows • A/C Units Screen Rooms • 54”x27” Tubs & Showers

Note: Our clubhouses are not secured hurricane shelters. It is Newby Management policy to lock the halls during the storm. However, they can be opened after the storm passes, if residents need a place to go. Newby states that this is for liability reason and to protect the community.

In LDV, be sure that anything that can blow away is secured, inside if possible. If you have awnings, put them down.

Has The Title/Deed to your home changed over the years?

Be sure to have your home’s title and/or deed update when there is a change in ownership due to a death in the family or other ownership transfer. If these documents are not updated, the state can impose late fees and selling of your home can get complicated and time consuming.Like the colorful, yellow addition to the gazebo? Due to the weakened condition of the wood rails on our gazebo, it has been taped off to avoid accidental injury. We hope to get it repaired soon.

MEET OUR COMMUNITY MANAGERMarie Cardinal is originally from Connecticut. She

moved to Cape Coral with her family in 1991. Marie has been working as a Property Manager since 2003. Over the years, she has managed Condominium Associations, HOA’s, Residential Rental Homes, Mobile Home Parks and RV Resorts. Marie developed one of the first Home Watch program on Sanibel and Captiva Islands and was featured in the business section of the News Press for her work with Home Watch and has worked for two companies that were voted best of Southwest Florida for property management. Marie says she looks forward to working with all of us here at Lazy Days Village. Welcome, Marie!

~~~~We are having issues with outsiders knocking on
doors asking for money and damaging property. The Sheriff's office will increase patrols. If you see anything suspicious or are subject to this happening, you should call the Sheriff's number 239-477-1000, not 911, to report the activity. The Sheriff cannot do anything unless the perpetrator is actually still on the property when they arrive, so try not to do something that will cause them to leave before help can arrive.
COMPUTER TRAINING
We are still hoping to entice someone in the village willing to do a little computer training. We have had requests from some of your neighbors who would like to learn more. We envision a one hour session for a few weeks. It could be hands on or a tutorial with “homework” for the students to work on during the week. Learn about Word, Excel, Facebook, emailing, downloading pictures, etc. or whatever the situations call for.
If you think this something you would like to offer, please let the ROLDI Activities Committee know and we will work out a schedule. Thanks.
GOT STEPS? NEED STEPS?The concrete steps that were in front of the office
door are available to anyone who can use them. They are heavy (!) so it would take several men or equipment to move them. Contact Marie in the office if you have use for them.
PLEASE!!WATCH YOUR SPEED
Be considerate of people walking
Reminder: Walk facing traffic. Ride with the traffic.
