BBMP has installed an Organic Waste Converter at a cost of Rs 22 Lakhs in Malleswaram Market a couple of weeks ago as part its project to renovate the market. The market now has a system that manages all waste that is generated within the market. This converter can process one ton of waste every day.

This new machine processes wet organic waste by employing aerobic microbial decomposition. The organic waste is churned into a homogenised; odour free output through a bio-mechanical process. This output is left to cure in baskets for stabilization where aerobic decomposition takes place. The final product is healthy organic compost that is a vital nutrient for farming. The OWC has been on a trial run and the market has to give only segregated organic waste to this facility.

BBMP decided to pilot the project in Malleshwaram market after the Resident We l fa re Assoc ia t i on (RWA) o f M a l l e s h w a r a m , M a l l e s h w a r a m Swabhimaana Initiative (MSI) initiated the

idea. In September 2008, Dr Meenakshi Bharat of MSI and N S Ramakath of Kumara park RWA met the then Additional Commissioner, Sriram Reddy (BBMP West) and introduced the OWC as a very good concept for the market.

These baskets store the processed waste (wet waste mixed with saw dust) till they mature into organic compost.

MSI has been working on spreading was te management and source s e g r e g a t i o n p r o g r a m m e s i n Malleshwaram for more than two years and has been looking to find solutions for bulk waste-generators such as markets.

The Malleswaram MLA Dr Ashwath Narayan has taken keen interest in this project and has successfully got it going for all Bangalore to see and replicate. The members of the MSI went around the market along with the health officials of BBMP and the newly elected Corporator, Manjunath Raju to create awareness about the facility and requesting the traders to segregate their waste.

Bangalore: Bribery is something unavoidable. Considering the present scenario in Karnataka, all people have to take oath not to indulge in bribery in their work place. We have role models to follow. We are proud of Narayana Murthy of Infosys who asked the customs official “What is the alternative to paying bribe?” and later he decided “We will just do that.” It was a threatening moment for Infosys politically and financially at the start-up.

The question was raised whether Narayana Murthy had succeeded in corporate governance by being anti-corrupt. The answer very much lies in the fact that the Indian Government awarded Narayana Murthy with the corporate governance award in 2000. Infosys grew fabulously. Though we do not know how Infosys is today, once it was known for transparency, honesty and trustworthiness. Besides, it stood as a role model inspiring the corporate world.

“I would avert any situation that lures me towards corruption and solely benefits me. I would be religious in deciding between choices”. The hypothetical case narrated by Narayana Murthy that 'if

he were traveling in Siberia alone and a lady was ready to have a consensual relationship with him, he would deny it' is a fine example that conscience governs us in our walk of life. Mr. Narayana Murthy's chapter was not several decades before, just a few years back. So why not follow the suit and avoid bribery.

Bangalore: “India can now win a Nobel prize in corruption,” said yoga rishi Baba Ramdev when he visited Bangalore on Friday. The yoga guru and the spiritual master's interest now turns towards politics – politics without corruption. He has no party to choose since no party is clean. He already runs a spiritual and social organization called Bharat Swabhiman Trust, and he is planning to bring this organization into politics with the main agenda to fight corruption.

Baba Ramdev asks “Do you still want to live in poverty, uneducated and insulted all your life?” He says the revolutionist J.P. Narayan failed only because he was old and says that he wishes to change India when he is capable and when he is young; not when he becomes old.

He says that if the parallel black economy is blocked and all the money locked up in Swiss bank comes back to India, India would be one of the most developed countries

in the world. He says that if the water management system improves and we use all the fresh water we receive through rain we can irrigate 38 crore hectares of land. Instead, we are letting it drain in to the sea today. By this the agricultural sector and the farmers would benefit and India's GDP would soar. Presently, Agriculture is only 15-16 % of the GDP and 50 crore people have no work. Baba Ramdev says that China's GDP is 3 times that of India's and

t hJapan, which is 1/4 the size of Andhra Pradesh has a GDP of 200 lakh crores. India’s is just 60 lakh crores. Baba Ramdev is on a mission to change the Indian system and to increase members for his Bharat Swabhiman Trust. He says we have to change some of the rules that the British left in India. It only suited them and not us. He says it is time we Indians got united to make Bharat Ramrajya.

MIND WORKS-36Low Self Esteem: What are its indicators?By UK Athikkal

-----------Do you often come across one or more of the following mental states? 1. Fear of Failure

2. Feeling Unfulfilled3. Being Frustrated or Angry4. Feeling unloved or Unlovable5. Feeling Nervous or Shy6. Feeling Indecisive

If your answer is 'Yes', the underlying cause could be your low self esteem.

What is Self Esteem?Self esteem is your opinion of yourself. High self esteem is a good opinion of yourself and low self esteem is a bad opinion of yourself.

Your self esteem depends on many questions.

- Is your job worthwhile? Do others respect what you do? Do you?

- Do you believe you are successful?

- How do you see yourself? (Your Self image)

- How do you feel about your strengths and weaknesses?

- What you think of your social status?

- How do you relate to others?- Can you make your own

decision? A lack of choice leads to low self esteem.

What is low self esteem?Low self esteem results from poor self

image. Your self image is based on how you see yourself. Do you think you are a good, reliable, hard working, honest or a friendly person?Low self esteem also depends on other factors like your job. For example, do you value the job you do? Does the job you have help you be happy with who you are? Low self esteem feeds your negative thinking and make you believe negative comments others make. This can cause you to lose confidence, so it is vital to end negative thoughts if you want to build your self esteem.

What is high self esteem?High self esteem is the opposite of the above! If you have a high level of self esteem you will be confident, happy, highly motivated and have the right attitude to succeed.

The importance of self esteem.Self esteem is crucial and is a cornerstone of a positive attitude towards living. It is very important because it affects how you think, act and even how you relate to other people. It affects your potential to be successful. This column is contributed by U K Athikkal, Life Skill Coach and Certified N L P Trainer. H e c a n b e c o n t a c t e d a t [email protected]

Bharat Swabhiman Movement

It's a fun little R-rated comedy, but coming off Sarah Marshall, which cinema goers would absolutely love.

Get Him to the Greek is like The Hangover meets Almost Famous, which is a great idea in theory, but turns out just not bad in execution. The flick is a spinoff of the surprise 2008 hit Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but it's as much a sequel as Mallrats is to Clerks. Sure there are a few actors, characters, and nods to its previous chapter, but this is its own stand alone flick. Given that the first film was better, I think we all would've preferred the spinoff to be a D r a c u l a p u p p e t m u s i c a l .

In a movie chock full of surprises and featuring the Apatow all stars, one of the biggest surprises of

Forgetting Sarah Marshall (other than Jason Segel's full frontal) was British comic Russell Brand's performance as the sober sex maniac rocker Aldous Snow. An even bigger surprise is that director Nicholas Stoller took the ball and ran with it, churning out another flick with Aldous front and center. You'd better check it out on the silver screen.

thAECS Layout: On Tuesday, the 25 May, the news corporators of BJP conducted ward office (Doddanakundi ward) opening ceremony at E Block ground. Not many people from the layout received invitation from the corporators. A very few in close circles got the information and attended the function. It is well known that the voter turnout in the BBMP (AECS Layout) was only 14%. Neither the people not the political parties take initiatives to br idge the communicat ion gap. “Suddenly I noticed huge cut outs informing about the ward office opening ceremony. No formal intimation from reliable sources.” said a senior citizen.

A couple of months before, there was a volley ball tournament (at the same venue in E Block) in which mostly the congress people were present. Many senior citizens said that there was no invitation to respectable locals.

Functions and ceremonies are more of pomp and show to imply the party's status quo. A humble and service oriented approach is very much lacking. A good politician will always have conscience over spending every paise that belongs to public. Here in AECS Layout, the public too are not bothered about anything besides their self.

Volley Ball Versus Foundation Ceremony

I t sounds bizarre that the foundation stone for Doddanakundi ward office has been laid but the place where the building will rise is undecided. When and where ceremony takes place? Where the building will be constructed? When will the remaining developmental works continue?

“If it happens, be content with it. If not we have no prior intimation or commitment.” Is this the message or attitude from political parties?
