Many of our customers are servicing this type of vehicle andthey are looking for a reliable source of quality filters. Donaldson are a leading manufacturer ofcommercial vehicle filtration and have a long history in the Australian market.

The Australian fixed body commercial vehicle population is dominated by the Japanese brandsof Hino, Isuzu and Mitsubishi - although European brands Iveco and Mercedes Benz are growingtheir share. Our focus has been on pulling together a comprehensive range to suit theseJapanese and European vehicles in particular.

One of the real challenges faced by Repco in putting this commercial vehicle filter programtogether was creating a catalogue for our staff and our customers. This market segment relieson OE sourcing by VIN number or cross referencing from OEM or alternate brand part numbers.After 18 months of dedicated research Repco have developed a catalogue that suits the wayour customers like to order and the way our staff find the right part.

As is always the case in replacing parts, it is critical that the Donaldson filter dimensions arechecked against the filter that it is replacing. Fitment of an incorrect filter can lead to substantialengine damage.

Features of Donaldson Air Filters designed to save you money!

Air filters are used to protect engines from dust, dirt and other dangerous particles. Engines must be protectedfrom contaminants to prevent early engine wear and reduce maintenance costs. Using air cleaners will decreaseoil and fuel consumption and will increase the efficiency and the life of the engine.

• The Heavy-duty liners are corrosion resistant, the coated steel liners support the filter media during operationand maximize airflow.

• The Beading is applied to both inner and outer liners and designed to stabilize the media.

• The Metal filter end caps are designed to protect the filter media and provide structural integrity.

• RadialSeal™ filters slip easily on and off the outlet tube during installation and service

Step 1: Gently remove the dirty filter from the housing

Step 2: Always clean the inside of the housing with a damp rag, paying particular attention to the gasket sealing area & outlet tube

Step 3: Make sure the gasket on your new filtersprings back promptly

Step 5: Check all Hose Clamps & Rubber Components for tension & holes

Step 4: Also, run the heel of your hand aroundthe gasket to check for any hidden flaws

CHANGING OUT YOUR DONALDSON AIR FILTER

Donaldson RadialSeal technology represents the latest incontemporary filter design. RadialSeal filters are easilyidentifiable as they feature urethane end caps.

InstructionsIf you’re servicing the safety filter, this should be seated intoposition before installing the primary filter.

Insert the new filter carefully. Seat the filter by hand, makingcertain it is completely into the air cleaner housing beforesecuring the filter in place.

The critical sealing area will stretch slightly, adjust itself and distribute the sealing pressure evenly. To complete atight seal, apply pressure by hand at the outer rim of the filter, not the flexible center. (Avoid pushing on the centreof the urethane end cap.)

No cover pressure is required to hold the seal. NEVER use the service cover to push the filter into place! Usingthe cover to push the filter in could cause damage to the housing and cover fasteners.

When Fitting a Donaldson Filter:

DO NOT knock the filter against a hard surface to clean it.

This may cause damage to filter.

RadialSeal is a special sealing designthat makes filters self-aligning andself-sealing during installation.

Donaldson manufactures a wide range of spin on liquid filters to handle fuel,oil/lube and coolants. Many engine manufacturers have different filtrationperformance specifications based on the operating environment of the engine.

Donaldson manufactured engine liquid filters will perform in the mostdemanding environments.

Donaldson liquid filters are technology driven with features and options toenhance performance in specific applications. It is during the design process Donaldson engineers match thisperformance with over 26 grades of liquid filter medias.

Donaldson’s complete line of liquid filters are designed to:• Increase engine protection by cleaning the liquid before it reaches the engine• Extend service intervals and reduce operating costs • Increases optimum fuel efficiency

The Donaldson Technology Advantage

Thread PlateThe tapered thread profile makes Donaldson filters easy to install with almost no chance of cross threading. Fullytucked seams attach the thread plate to the housing can for strength and durability. Rolled threads give a cleanerthread profile, reduces risk of swarth contamination and you get a more positive thread engagement – this taperedthread profile simplifies installation and prevents cross threading. The seal between the thread plate and end plate is constructed of moulded elastomer which is designed forextreme cold and heat. Competitive brands use paper, cork or plastic spacer materials that do not last the servicelife of the filter.

Housing CanHeavy-duty, coated shell, rounded dome and corner radius give Donaldsonfilters superior pressure fatigue performance. Filters with wrench flats or sharpradius edges will crack sooner than the Donaldson filter.

Filter CartridgeDonaldson has design and manufacturing experience with both metal(traditional) and metal-free cartridge filters. The filter media is fastened

mechanically with a metal clip. Competitive spin on brands use a glue seam which is more susceptible todeterioration during operation. Donaldson curing process adds strength to the filter media and ensures that filterbypass does not occur. The media is cured while the media is flat, which ensures consistent and even curing.

Centre TubeThe Donaldson louvered centre tube and spiral lock seam design allows moreflow area with greater collapse strength. The louvers all face the centre of thefilter, keeping the media side surface smooth, which eliminates pleat tip wear.

GasketsOil, fuel and hydraulic fluids have their own unique chemical properties.Donaldson makes sure the right materials are used and the right shape to fit themounting head or housing. In spin-on filters, the inner seal between the threadplate and filters cartridge is critical.

Inner SealsIn spin-on filters, the inner seal between the thread plate and filter cartridge is another critical seal. Donaldsonfilters use a moulded elastomer seal. Competitive designs use non-heavy-duty materials, like paper, cork, andspacers.

THREADS – All threads should be inspected prior to installation

Are they correctly machined & free of debris?

Debris may enter the engine and cause engine damage. Debris can also causedamage to the mounting thread on the engine and or the filters thread.

GASKET – Inspect gasket before installation.

Is it correctly fitted & not cut or damaged?

A damaged seal can result in oil leakage and therefore engine oil starvation. In serious cases Oil starvation can cause major engine damage.

CAN – Inspect the can for damage to the outer shell.

Make sure it is not damaged, if so don’t use it!

A damaged can may have an effect on oil flow, the ability of the filter to sealagainst the engine while also possibly causing damage to the media orcenter tube. Never use a filter with a damaged outer can.

Filter – Inspect filter before installation.

Does it look like the filter you are replacing?

Place new and old filters side by side to compare.

Step 1:Remove old filter from engine.

Check the threads on the filter to make sure they are correctly formed.

It is critical that the replacement filter dimensions are checked against theremoved filter. Fitment of an incorrect filter can lead to substantial enginedamage.

Step 2:First make sure the gasket is correctly in position, then apply a thin layer of fuelor oil - DO NOT USE GREASE

If you prefer to prefill the filter with fluid before you install, make sure you do sovia the inlet holes only, NOT the clean side of the filter.

Steps 3 & 4:Spin the filter onto the head until the gasket first comes into contact with thesealing surface, THEN tension by hand to the recommended number of turnsshown on the filter. NOTE: There are different tensions for some filter groups.

The symbols you see on Donaldson spin-on filters need to be interpreted correctly.

Do not use wrenches to install filters as damage may occur that could affect your filter’s life.

Airflow RequirementsAir is critical to the operation of an engine. The amount of air required by the engine depends on the type ofengine, if it has a turbocharger, and the horsepower rating. The engine airflow requirement is set and given by theengine manufacturer.

Single-Stage Air CleanerA single-stage air cleaner is a dust removing system for intake air with a filter and no pre-cleaner.

Two-Stage Air CleanerA two-stage air cleaner uses both a built-in pre-cleaner and a filter to remove dust from intake air.

Primary FilterThe primary filter is the filter in the air cleaner that removes around 99.9+% of the air’s dust. The air flows throughthe primary filter first.

Safety (Secondary) FilterThe safety filter is an optional filter that protects the engine during servicing of the primary filter and in case of aleak in the primary filter.

RadialSealRadial Seal refers to filter sealing technology that uses the urethane end cap and the cleaner’s outlet tube tocreate the seal. This has become the preferred method of sealing over older axial seal designs.

Axial SealThe axial seal sealing method requires a force between an air filter and air cleaner that provides enoughcompression on the gasket between the parts to create the seal.

Filter MediaFilter media is the material in the filter that removes the contaminant. Filter media is made from cellulose,synthetic, and various combinations and blends of fibres combined with resins to keep the fibres together

Dust ConcentrationDust concentration expresses the mass of dust in a specified volume of air. Typical ambient conditions are around0.1 milligrams per cubic metre. Off-road conditions are around 100 milligrams per cubic metre.

Overall EfficiencyOverall efficiency is the percentage of dust that the air cleaner with a filter removes from the intake air. Donaldsonair cleaners, with a Donaldson air filter, have a 99.99+% overall efficiency.

RestrictionRestriction represents the resistance to the flow of air through the air cleaner system. Typical units are inches of water(H20) or kilopascal (kPa). Air cleaners with clean filters should have restriction between 6-10”H20 or 1.5 and 2.5 kPa.

Dust CapacityDust capacity is the amount of contaminant that will be collected on a filter before a specified restriction level (asset by the manufacturer) is reached

CFMCFM means cubic feet per minute. This is the unit of air flow measurement. An engine requires a flow of air forcombustion.

Cellulose Media Media from wood fibers

Melt blown Media This is a layered synthetic media or media made of glass

Housing The place in which the cartridge filter fits into

Micron The measurement of minute particles of dirt

Pressure Drop The pressure difference between the upstream and downstream flow

Primary Filter This usually functions as a large contaminant or water removal filter

Transfer Pump This is usually a low flow fuel pump.

Check Valve This valve prevents the fuel from flowing back to tank causing fuel starvation.
