the three most impor-
tant factors in real
estate. And living in
south Florida for any
amount of time, we
also know that close
p rox i m i t y to th e
ocean is considered a premier factor in location.
We have Henry Flagler to thank for
building a railroad to transport health seeking
people and investors to our shores in the early
1900s and Coral Ridge has the visionary
Robert Trent Jones to thank for procuring not
only 200+ acres of land within a mile of the
Atlantic Ocean, but also creating a world-class
golf course, country club and home away from
H.O.M.E. for its Members in 1954.
Today, our once sleepy town of Fort
Lauderdale is experiencing a boom as high
rises and cranes are continuing to line the sky.
Office towers, apartments, condos and hotels
seem to be popping up everywhere; along with
new restaurants, bars, and an endless string
new activities and events at venues around
town. Plus the high-speed rail Brightline and
proposed Wave streetcar line that promise to
connect it all. Much of the vibrancy is no
accident, but the result of well-laid plans.
“It all adds up to what boosters say might
turn out to be the most liveable, most
convenient and appealing urban neighbor-
hood in South Florida…with the added
advantages of a 10-minute drive to the
airport or a five-minute bike ride to Fort
Lauderdale’s famous beach, also undergoing
a rejuvenation.”*
As Fort Lauderdale has grown up around
the Club, this private oasis has become even
more valued by i ts Members and the
community. A true gem of open green space,
historical significance and a center of
community life. Restoring and preserving the
legacy of this location was the focus of Phil
Smith and partnership team in 2004 and
continues to be at the heart of what we
continue to do on a daily basis.

Keeping Our Greens FirmCORE AERIFICATION
is essentia l to keep
playing surfaces healthy
and in good condition.
Aerification helps to
control organic matter,
relieve soil compaction,
stimulate root growth and improve drainage.
Coral Ridge typically performs this process in
the warm, summer months when the grass is
growing at a faster rate and the turf has the
best opportunity to recover quickly.
As greens age, more organic material
(decaying roots, stems and other plant parts)
is present in the profile which makes up the
top two-inch layer just underneath the
putting surface creating a sponge effect.
Organic matter causes higher disease rates,
softness and reduces the greens ability to
drain quickly.
Aeration holes provide an empty channel
to fill with new, clean sand which creates a
firmer surface. The bigger the core the better.
The more new sand that can be put in the
greens profile, the better the green will
perform in the long run. We are always
monitoring the health of our greens, and
aerification, along with topdressing, is one of
the most important ways we can keep our
greens beautiful, healthy and in top condi-
tion for the enjoyment of our Members, so
you’ll see these practices increase as we head
into the warmer months. For the course
maintenance schedule, please see page 15.

staff who supported this
event and cause. This year’s event was a great
success raising $8,930 that will be added to
the $130,000 raised since the event inception
in 1997. The day was a huge success much in
part to the dedicat ion of Committee
Members: Sis Ertley, Mary Costantino, Gerrie
Roberts, Denise Bryan,
Cathy Lenz, Penny
England, and Mary Ann
Uznis. Again, thank you
all for your hard work
and dedication to the
success of this event! We
could not have done it without you!

Special club events, wine dinners, Saturday night seafood buffets and holiday dining are popular events that sell out and requirethe purchase of special food and beverage products, equipment, entertainment, etc. Last minute un-replaced cancellations(including changes to the party number) are unfair to those Members who are turned away due to full capacity and cause theClub to incur unnecessary expenses if the reservation is not replaced. As a result, the Club must exercise a firm enforcement ofthe special event and holiday dining policy.
• At the time of making your reservation we will charge your account 100% of the event price.
• Please let us know if you have other Members dining with you, so we may contact them.
• You may cancel 7 days prior to event, without being charged.
• If you cancel less than 7 days prior to the event, you will have to pay 100% of the event price.
Note: Should there be a wait list and we are able to fill your reservation less than 6 days prior to the event, your account will becredited in full.
