The Oct. 4th concert kicks offIAMA LCS season with ColumbiaJones and The Proper Way.

Columbia Jones has spent the bet-ter part of the last three years trav-eling the country as a blues-fueledone-man band - a path that hashelped him to develop the dy-namic range of country, rock andfolk influences showcased in hisfirst full-length studio album, I'm aTerrible Human Being.

While musically the album blendsgenres throughout, lyrically manyof the tracks serve to support thethesis statement presented by thealbum's title. Columbia relates theparticulars of making a living as afull-time traveling musicianagainst the contrasting backdropof "grownup" expectations and theaccompanying "real world" meas-urements of success as either atongue-in-cheek expression, or apious confession.

However, I'm a Terrible HumanBeing is more than an existentialexercise for Columbia Jones. Inaddition to the writing and per-forming, Jones also engineered, produced, and mixed most of thealbum on his own. It's a level ofinvolvement that gives the record apersonal touch and convinces usthat Columbia isn't all that terribleafter all.

The Proper Way formed in 2016when multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriters Scott Rogers (vocals, guitar, banjo, mandolin) andShane Osguthorpe (vocals, piano, guitar) met while performing at amusic festival in Ogden, UT. Theduo quickly hit the road, with itsfirst performances as The ProperWay taking place on a week-longrun in the Lake Tahoe area. Since

(LCS, continued from page 3)then, the band has become a sta-ple of the northern Utah musicscene and has toured from Califor-nia to Colorado. They released aCD in 2016, and two EPs of origi-nal music are coming in 2019.

In 2017, The Proper Way ap-proached Ogden singer-songwriterCarrie Myers (vocals, ukulele) tocollaborate on a studio project.Ain't No Good Thing Ever Dies, acollection of obscure songs byTom Waits and Bob Dylan, was re-leased in October, 2018. Duringthe recording process, the trio en-listed the help of Ogden-basedguitarist and lap-steel wizard RyanHawthorn (vocals, guitar).

The result of this alliance is a newproject, Carrie Myers + TheProper Way, and this three-piece(and often four- or five-piece) isbusy writing songs and performingfor crowds all over the region.

The Intermountain Acoustic Music As-

sociation thanks the voters of Salt Lake

County for their support of the Zoo, Arts

& Parks program. One-tenth of one per-

cent of the Salt Lake County sales tax

goes to support local cultural, botanical,

and zoological organizations. This fund-

ing has not only stabilized many of Salt

Lake’s cultural organizations, but has also

funded the construction of new recre-

ational facilities, and improved walking

trails. ZAP funding helps to provide

“free” days, free concerts, and reduced

ticket prices for students.
