The feeling of the city was done through the interior by mixing many different styles and sizes of apartments within the Guildhaas building. Further more, this variety of styles and sizes of apartments was explored through an idea of layering. Since the structure and floors are intact and defined, it’s possible for an apartment to occupy different areas on each floor, for an alternative way of stacking different floors of an apartment. This gives the building a feeling of variety and transience, that is apparent in cities. This apartment specifically explored the vertical space, and possibilities. My client prefers smaller spaces, so I created a series of smaller spaces on each floor. Rather than a larger space on one level divded by walls and consisting of hallways. Each floor in its self has a different purpose. The more narrow horizonal feeling of the apartment, mixed with the long vertical space, gives the space a townhouse feeling. This returns to the original concept of the building. A mixture of apartment styled and townhouse styled apartments would give the interior of the Guildhaas an electic city with in a building feeling. The concept of this design began with the idea of a city within a building.
