Friday 15 March is the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. The National Day is a positive day of action, bringing school communities together to help find workable solutions that address bullying and violence. On the day Anti-bullying products made by LATS groups will be displayed and presented. We also have six activity groups that students will rotate through. The activities are designed to promote kindness and harmony. The day will finish with students arranged in a Bulling No Way photo.I was pleased to visit round two of the Spelling Bee. Our students are engaged and keen to do well. I am looking forward to seeing our students continue their spelling journey. Good luck and I hope to see you in the final round. Who will be the next Spelling Bee Champion?Well done to cricket team for winning the 2nd round of the Lachlan Shield against Condobolin. I must say the team looks visually stunning in uniform, topped with their new school caps. Also, well done to our open soccer and netball teams for competing hard and demonstrating wonderful sportsmanship.Wednesday 6 March was P&C day. There is not an enough praise I can give the parents and community members that volunteer to help with P&C events. The support the P&C provides the school and extra opportunities they provide our staff and students is fantastic. The school is very fortunate to have such an active and hard working P & C committee. Our first Parent-Teacher afternoon is on Monday 11 March from 4.00 – 6.00 pm. I encourage all parents to meet with teachers about your child’s progress and share thoughts and ideas around ongoing learning. If parents are unable to attend, appointments can be made at any time through our administration office.Aaron FlaggPrincipal

Principal’s reportCongratulations to Connor Day who received the Regional Lion’s Youth of the Year Public Speaking award on Sunday 3 March in Forbes. The competition consisted of a five minute prepared speech, interview and impromptu questions. Connor was unlucky not to win overall on the day, he appreciated the opportunity, suggesting that it was great for developing confidence in public speaking as well as practise for job interviews and university. He encouraged anyone interested to have a go next year, as it is a valuable experience.

We were once again awarded Champion School in the 2019 South West Slopes Science and Engineering Challenge. Well done to all students and staff involved! This is the tenth year in a row that our school has won this award - an amazing achievement! Students should be very proud of their performance.

I would like to introduce David Hayward, our scripture teacher.“My name is David Hayward and I teach Scripture at the Henry Lawson High School. I live in Forbes with my wife and 3 children and love playing soccer and fixing computers. This is my 3rd year teaching scripture in Grenfell. Scripture is optional and available for all students in Years 7-10. My job is simply to teach what Christians believe and answer any questions.”

“It shows strength to stand up for yourself and others. Be strong and

always chose kindness.”Jada

The crowd was on the edge of their seats ... Round two of the Lachlan Shield cricket competition saw Grenfell defeating Condobolin in what turned out to be a nail-biter. Excellent bowling and fielding from the home team constricted Condobolin to a score of 7/129 from their 35 overs. Grenfell went out to bat full of confidence, but the loss of three early wickets in the first handful of overs had our boys worried, however, a solid middle effort from Bailey Edwards and Riley Edwards steadied the ship, and put us back into a competitive position. As Condobolin brought their opening bowlers back on, more wickets fell and Bailey managed to get to a retiring score of 63 not out. At 7/128, with their strike bowler on a hat-trick, Riley Gray marched out to the middle and fended a solid first-ball bouncer away towards fine leg, scoring the winning two runs!!! Well done boys.

The Henry Lawson Strikers! Our young and enthusiastic soccer team were tested against a strong team from Orange High School last week. It was a very tough match with the Orange team boasting several representative players, and with our star player on rep duties with the Young Matildas, we were down our main striker. Unfortunately we didn’t come away with a win, however the game was played in good spirit and enjoyed by all. Our thanks to Mr Harris for coaching and to Mr Walker along with Michael and Ben Walker for refereeing our game.

NETBALL NEWSOn Thursday 28 February, eleven students travelled across to Orange to compete in the Opens Netball Gala Day. The girls received a pretty tough draw but played with effort and enthusiasm right until the final whistle. I was very proud of their sportsmanship, sometimes it takes a real champion to lose gracefully. Although we didn’t come away with the trophy, the girls all learnt something from the experience and we a great day was had by all.Mrs Taylor
