Lawrence School is pleased to offerPEERS [Program for the Educationand Enrichment of Relational Skills],a ground-breaking social skills training intervention program created byDr. Elizabeth Laugeson of UCLA,during the summer of 2015. PEERShas a strong evidence base in assisting students with a range of learning differences to develop interpersonalskills in the following domains:

nHow to use appropriate conversational skillsnHow to find common interests by trading informationnHow to appropriately use humornHow to enter and exit conversations between peersnHow to handle rejection, teasing and bullyingnHow to handle rumors and gossip nHow to be a good host during get-togethers.nHow to make phone calls to friendsnHow to choose appropriate friendsnHow to be a good sportnHow to handle arguments and disagreements

The eight week PEERS program is designed to assist students in Grades 7 and 8 in successfully navigating the social landscape through direct instruction in essential interpersonal skills. All of these individually taught skills combine to help students who struggle socially to make andkeep friends.

Lawrence School is proud to be the only northeast Ohio provider of PEERS, with six certified PEERS instructors on staff.

Please note that not all students may be appropriate for PEERS. Those selected for the program must be motivated to improve interpersonal skills and want to make and keep friends. The program requires that homework assignments be completed by both students and parents throughout the course of the eight weeks. Students and families must commit to completing these assignments consistently before enrollment.

An intake and screening process is required of all applicants, as is pre and post-testing of skills to determine program effectiveness.

Lawrence School has two campus locations. The LowerSchool campus in Broadview Heights serves students ingrades K-6, while the 47-acre Upper School campusin Sagamore Hills serves students in grades 7-12. Bothlocations are central to the greater Cleveland andAkron areas.
