Re: Year-End Charitable Contribution for WALADear NAME:

On behalf of Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts, I would like to ask you to renewyour financial support of our organization. Your continued support of WALA is critical

to our work in the community and we have a number of exciting initiatives anticipat-ed for 2013.

2012: Building Stronger Communities through the Arts

Over the course of the past year, WALA has been on the forefront of a major initiativein Washington, DC to implement a strategy to expand growth of our creative econo-my. The Creative DC Action Agenda launched in June 2010, jointly by several agen-cies of the D.C. Government and the Washington, D.C. Economic Partnership, is a planfor revitalization, community economic development and job creation through growthof the creative industries located in DC.

Through its partnership with the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, WALAhas continued to participate in the Creative DC Action Agenda with two major initia-tives:

Start-Up Educational Programs. WALA expanded its Creative En-trepreneurship series with a youth program for aspiring artists. The Series educatescreative professionals and emerging artists about fundamental legal issues in startingand maintaining a business.

Legal Policy Papers on the Arts. To educate and inform community leaders,WALA is collaborating with the Small Business and Community Economic Develop-ment Clinic at George Washington University Law School on two white papers on therole of the arts as a means for community economic development.

2013: Services Vital to Creating Change

In 2013, we will continue to develop programs to revitalize communities through cre-ative entrepreneurship. Plans to expand our Creative Entrepreneurship series arealready under way. We also are developing additional white papers on timely and cut-ting-edge topics relating to community economic development and the arts. We alsoanticipate launching efforts on programs designed to encourage job creation and jobtraining in the creative industries.

We also plan to introduce a new Creative Speakers Series to recognize leaders in thecreative community. This series will feature leaders in the art, entertainment and le-gal communities.

While we have experienced greater visibility and engagement with the community

through our initiatives for the DC Creative Plan Agenda, we continue to be an impor-tant legal services resource for artists and arts organizations in our community. Thedemand for our core services our pro bono referral services and educational pro-grams has increased steadily for the fourth year a row.

Our success would not be possible without the volunteer services from the nearly 350attorneys in our community. While we consider the contributions of time and talent tobe our greatest asset, we also need the financial support of donors who understandand share our vision for a stronger and more vibrant community a community thatvalues the contributions made by artists, musicians, performing arts companies, culi-nary chefs, filmmakers, digital media designers and other creative individuals and or-ganizations that invest and give back to our community every day.
