Interconnection of geographical spread offices can be realized using IP technology as internet and/or intranetsolutions. The internet is a cost-efficient solution for dataservices. In addition to that, secure connections basedon SDH or PDH can be used for the interconnection with LAWA 4 to provide highest reliability for TCP/IPapplications.
Ethernet Port■ Full duplex 10BaseT■ Standard Ethernet 10BaseT IEEE 802.3
interface■ RJ.45 connector
Backplane Port■ Two 2 Mbit/s P-bus cross connect ports
(backplane access)■ One of the P-buses can be installed as
channelized E1 Ports (n*64 kbit/sG.704)
■ The ports can be used for the connec-tion of other LAWA 4 cards or other IPcards (cascading)
■ The ports can be used for connectionto a FOX 515 interface card
■ The ports can be used for connectionto a FOX 515 transmission card
BenefitsThe LAWA 4 is a new IP card included inthe FOX 515 platform. It offers operatorsmany opportunities to add new servicesand to save costs in existing applications. The LAWA 4 connects a local area network(LAN) over a 10BaseT interface with theFOX 515 for access to the various Aggre-gate units the FOX 515 supports.
The list below gives a brief overview:■ Wide range of data services (LAN,
internet, intranet) can be connectedcost-effectively ➞ IntegratedRouter/Bridge in FOX 515
■ A cost-effective network solution fordedicated networks ➞ It saves the cost of an external
router■ Fully integrated management
➞ All the functions can be managed by software (UNEM/UCST)
■ Saves backbone capacity ➞ Cascadable IP Concentration
■ Can be used in all types of SDH, PDH,IP and Frame Relay networks➞ Wide range of FOX 515 interfaces➞ Included in the future-oriented ABB
platform concepts
FeaturesGeneral■ Flexible Layer 2 or 3 IP concentration■ Cascadable over the FOX515 internal
cross connect■ Up to 15 LAWA 4 cards can be cascaded
in distributed subracks■ Frame Relay FRAD functionality
(optional)■ Static routing■ Supported routing protocol: OSPF2■ Hardware prepared for NAT and for
Voice over IP applications

Different, independent networks for SCADA, video supervision, LAN interconnection, and other applications can be realized with theFOX 515 platform. For instance, to prevent SCADA data being blocked by video traffic, separate networks can be implemented.
Application examples.
IP-based SCADA System for power utilities
Video codec with integrated httpserver allows video supervision from anypoint of the network using a commonbrowser interface such as Netscape orInternet Explorer.
Web cams are a cost-efficient solutionfor the supervision of repeater stationsor switch yards and provide visual infor-mation of remote sites such as■ Access control■ Weather information
Video Application for Remote Site Supervision
Different LANs can be connected over LAWA 4 using the FOX 515 STM1backbone. Together with voice and other data cards. FOX 515 provides acomprehensive solution for all kinds ofapplications.
General wide area network (WAN)
Example of a Scada System (Supervision,Control, and Data Acquisition), based on IP. The LAWA 4 connects differentLANs by means of nx64 kbit/s over aSTM1 backbone to the control center. The bandwidth of the backbone can beadapted to the required bandwidth.
T
Configurations
■ LAN-LAN interconnection via WAN.In this application the LAWA 4 card works asa bridge. Two networks have their ownrouter or switch, LAWA 4 provides the inter-connection.
■ Point-to-Point Network.LAWA 4 is a cost-effective solution to inter-connect two geographically separated LANsover a FOX 515 STM 1 link. Routing supportsTCP/IP traffic, whereas bridging can be usedfor other protocols.
■ Linear Network.LAWA 4 connects linear networks with two 2 Mbit P-bus connections.
■ Star Network. It is possible to connect logical ports usingnx64 kbit/s connections.
■ IP Concentration. The LAWA 4 can be used for cascadable IPconcentration in a network.
■ IP-based Data Acquisition. The LAWA 4 card can be connected with other IP cards, such as LEMU 6 andCOLT soho.
Fully integrated Management from Backbone Side
The Management of the LAWA 4 card is carriedout from the platform software UNEM/CST.IP addresses and routing tables are defined bythe carrier. Using a password and LAWA 4’s IPaddress, a LAN administrator can check the status and performance of transmission androuter parameters over a local management portor using a Telnet session.
