The Princeton Review has ran&ed NorthCarolina CentrafUniversity in the top ten ofthe most desirab(e law schoos to attendforthe past two (2) years. This ranfgig is duein part to the hard worfof ourfacuty andstaff as well as our new Director ofRecruitment, Tracy Mics 'Barey, '93.

The ubiquitous participation of ourmembership in [eadership roles is alsonoteworthy. We are in teadership roes ineducation, politics, trial and appellateadvocacy andthejudiciary.

I am trubj proud of "our" school and hopeyou share that pride. Further, as presidentof 'your" Ahunni association, I hope thatpride translates into increasedparticipation in the AumniAssociation, andsupport of your [aw schoof only 151

members of our alumni association paidduesin 1994 for total revenue of$4.995.00. Only77 members of the alumni associationcontribution to the Annual Fund for totalrevenue of $9,700.00. It is not fair that sofew carry the burden for so many. The factthat you can practice your chosen professionhas an attendant obl~ation to give to the LawSchoo(

COMMITTEES

If you are hoping to gain admissionto one of these twenty law schools, prepare to fight tooth and nail. In aneffort to convey the popularity ofcertain law schools with applicants,we have calculated the "DemandIndex" of the twenty most in-demandlaw schools in the country. Thisvalue is an indicator of more thansimply the number of applicants toeach school. It also takes intoaccount the rate at which admittedapplicants accept offers of admissionto a given law school. (Fellow geeks, follow along: We have taken thenumber of applicants to each schooland divided that number by theactual number of slots available ineach school's first-year class. Bydividing the number of applicantsadmitted to each school by thenumber of slots available at eachschool, we have some indication ofjust how popular a given school iswith those it admits. By dividing thefirst value - relative applicant volume- by this second value, we arrive atour demand index.) Atop the list -no surprise here - is the YaleUniversity Law School. Yalereceives almost 5.000 applicationsfor fewer than 200 spots in its first-year class. More than 50percent of admitted applicants choseto attend Yale - a remarkable highproportion. Some very surprisingappearances are made on the list bysuch young law schools as GeorgiaState and CUNY, Queens, twoschools that are relatively unknownon a national basis but areenormously popular with residents ofGeorgia and New York. The trait that

these schools tellingly share withtwelve of the other top twenty is thatthey are inexpensive publicinstitutions. Like bargain huntersfighting to get their hands on a greatdeal, law-school applicants flood thenation's top public schools withapplications, and a very highproportion of those who gainadmission choose to enroll.
