The British SIS set up the highly secretive code-breaking group “Ultra” after information on the Enigma code was made available to them by Warsaw’s Cipher Bureau. In the beginning, Bletchley Park had just 200 employees working at the site, but during the peak decryption efforts in late 1944, almost 9,000 staff worked at the site in three shifts, among them mathematicians, translators, and experts in chess and cross-word-puzzle solving.
