Professional Positions

Clinical Professor of Gifted Education, Department of Teaching and Learning, College of Education.

(July 2017–Present). Academic appointment in Teaching and Learning and administrative appointment in The Connie Belin & Jacqueline N. Blank International Center in Gifted Education and Talent Development (Belin-Blank Center). Primary responsibility is to facilitate the State of Iowa Talented and Gifted (TAG) Endorsement, as well as develop other opportunities for developing knowledge and skills in the field of talent development. The primary duties fall within the scope of the interdepartmental requirements for the Endorsement, aligned with national standards in gifted education. Duties include oversight and coordination of all professional development activities associated with the Belin-Blank Center, developing and teaching a variety of gifted education courses in multiple formats, as well as clinical and supervision responsibilities related to educating gifted and talented learners. This position also serves as the Honors Advisor for the Honors Opportunity Program in the College of Education and collaborates with University Honors. The following responsibilities and qualifications are associated with this position: Responsibilities: •Program coordinator for gifted and talented professional development, scheduling coursework for the Endorsement, ensuring that the University of Iowa College of Education is in compliance with the Board of Educational Examiners TAG Exhibit.

•Advise and supervise those earning the State of Iowa Talented and Gifted Endorsement. •Teach courses required for the TAG endorsement (each semester). •Supervise the practicum experience for both in-service and pre-service teachers earning the Endorsement.

•Develop and coordinate an online graduate certificate in talent development, including the development of new coursework as needed.

•Develop an online Master’s degree in gifted education and talent development. •Collaborate with state, national, and international organizations in the field of gifted education.

•Coordinate the College of Education Honors Opportunity Program, facilitating the Honor Seminar in Education and the Honors Research Seminar.

•Serve as a faculty member in Teaching and Learning. Attend and participate in regularly-scheduled meetings, and support the Department in other ways, as necessary.

•Serve on doctoral examining and/or dissertation committees for those with a cognate in gifted education.

•Provide departmental, college, university, community, and professional service as appropriate. Qualifications •Earned doctorate, with an emphasis in Gifted Education •A minimum of five years of direct experience providing professional development in the field of gifted education.

The Talent@Iowa Task Force was established last spring to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of our current HR structure, and we are now entering the implementation phase of the Talent@Iowa recommendations. Our new chief human resource officer, Cheryl Reardon, is identifying campus leaders who will help lead this effort. From a governance perspective, she is establishing a Talent@Iowa Governance Council to guide the transformation of the HR enterprise. The Talent@Iowa Governance Council will play a critical role in shaping how we recruit, retain and develop talent at our institution, ensuring that our workforce is ready, willing and able to meet the needs and challenges of our campus and community. The responsibilities of the Governance Council will include: •Planning, prioritization and coordination of the Talent@Iowa task force’s recommendations •Oversight and guidance to ensure timely and successful implementation of the recommendations •Cultivation of a dialogue with constituents across campus to incorporate multiple perspectives on talent at Iowa
