FINISHING TOUCH

Playing Cards and Packaging

This brief was to visually interpret a short story called Finishing Touch by the writer Claire Louise Bennett. My concept for this brief was to visualise the fake identity which the main character had adopted.

The story is based around a party which the main character is hosting. On the outside she is incontrol and would be perceived as the perfect host. However on the inside she seems to be recovering from a break down, suffering from what could be social anxiety and OCD.

FINISHING TOUCH

Playing Cards and Packaging

I chose the format of playing cards as they can be shuffled similar to how the character is rearranging her life. Cards have two sides which can represent both personalities. She also makes reference in the story of how she could make up a little game to be in control of the seating order, in this way she is ‘holding all the cards’.

The cards have tips for hosting the perfect party. Some of these tips have been scribbled over with the character’s notes to show the nature of her OCD.

THE LIvES OF OTHErS

Title Sequence

The Lives of Others is a film set in 1984 in East Berlin during the Stasi dictatorship. The theme of this title sequence is based on the complete surveillance which Berliners lived through during this dictatorship. The Stasi had eyes everywhere and documentation on everyone, they interrogated people to get information on their neighbours. The atmosphere aimed to express the fear felt by the Berliners who were being watched.

WOrLd CUp 2014

Editorial Statistics

This brief was to create Info-graphics for an editorial on the World Cup 2014 which was hosted in Brazil. The statistics include information on the most valuable player and team, the overall attendance, the cost and revenue of hosting the world cup and a statistic on the number of people who are living below the poverty line in Brazil. The info-graphics are designed to conceptually communicate the subject matter.

AmNESTy INTErNATIONAL pOSTEr

Advertising Campaign

I designed a poster and booklet for Amnesty International’s Student Conference for 2014. The campaign which my poster promotes is for women’s rights. The issue I focused on was the trafficking of women.

The visual portrays handmade paper chains in the shape of women. This is an object that is associated with innocence, while the chain signifies entrapment. The chain is made out of materials which signify the different journeys these women faced.

BOOST v+ FUNCTIONAL WATErS

Branding and Advertising

As part of a group project for the YCN Student awards 2014, we created a new brand of functional waters for the well known energy drink brand, Boost. Myself and my team created the new brand V+. Boost V+ provides an essential boost to daily life. Vie means life and V stands for five, the V+ range features five functional flavours: +Pace, +Hype, +Pure, +Care and +Wake.

BOOST v+ FUNCTIONAL WATErS

Branding and Advertising

The Boost V+ functional app is designed to charge the mind and body through a combination of brain teasers and physical activity. The application includes 5 different games focusing on the function of each V+ drink. This socially engaging app encourages users to compete with each other in order to build-up enough points to earn free Boost V+ products and promotional items.

The Boost V+ Web-page introduces our new V+ range and the V+ app.

THE FLyING CHEESE BrIGAdE

Branding and Packaging

I designed the branding and packaging for ‘The Flying Cheese Brigade’ a company who sell cheese and a range of other products at the Milk Market in Limerick.

In designing for ‘The Flying Cheese Brigade’, I knew the message had to be quick and clear to attract consumers in a busy market place. Therefore I gave the products a voice to shout out to their consumers.

THE pLIGHT OF WOmEN IN AFGHANISTAN

Typographic Editorial

As part of the ISTD Awards 2015 I chose a brief on Taboos. I explored the subject of social taboos which discriminate the rights of women in Afghanistan. This project aimed to expose the cruelty which women face throughout their daily lives with the intention of raising awareness, and in turn impacting change.

The subject matter which this project uncovers is of a very serious nature therefore the tone and treatment of the design reflects this.

THE pLIGHT OF WOmEN IN AFGHANISTAN

Typographic Editorial

This project is split into three sections as it deals with different information in relation to time frame and tone. The first section uses harsh colour, bold uppercase type and heavy lines which reflect the oppressive mood of the Taliban takeover.

The second section uses fragmented typography across spreads to represent the violence and torture experienced by these women. This has been visually expressed while maintaining a serious and respectful tone.

The final section has a lighter and hopeful tone. Heavy lines from previous sections have been transformed to communicate positive messages of hope which are typeset in Arabic.
