India Water Partnership is working with 2030 Water Resources Group (an innovative public private civil society platform) since 2015 for Hindon river rejuvenation efforts. India Water Partnership started stakeholders’ engagement process in the Hindon river basin with 2030 Water Resources Group in 2015. This process led to Hindon Yatra- cum-Exhibition & Symposium series (2016). At the same time, Nirmal Hindon Initiative (2017) started at the Uttar Pradesh Government level and India Water Partnership represented as a member of Committee constituted by Government of Uttar Pradesh. India Water Partnership is a part of Steering Board of Government of Uttar Pradesh for Ganga/Hindon tributary management which is the apex body of the multi- stakeholder platform. India Water Partnership is also a member of core group to guide the establishment and operation of a robust tributary level governance mechanism through a multi-stakeholder approach for collective action and to provide scientifically grounded solutions for effective program/project development in the Hindon sub-basin and other Ganga river tributaries. The Government of Uttar Pradesh nominated India Water

Partnership (GWP-India) as one of the high level Steering

Board member of innovative multi-stakeholder partnership

for Ganga/Hindon tributary management, which was

launched on 19th

June, 2019 at Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) for

catalysing collective action for Hindon river rejuvenation.

India Water Partnership is working with 2030 Water

Resources Group (an innovative public private civil society

platform) since 2015 for Hindon river rejuvenation efforts.

India Water Partnership started stakeholders’ engagement

process in the Hindon river basin with 2030 Water

Resources Group in 2015. This process led to Hindon Yatra-

cum-Exhibition & Symposium series (2016). At the same

The discussions were led by Principal Secretary, Urban Development and Clean Ganga, Mr. Manoj Kumar

Singh, Government of Uttar Pradesh who is championing this initiative. India Water Partnership will be

actively engaged as a member of Working Group about Tributary Governance & Finance as well as in

coordinating basin level activities in close coordination with State Mission for Clean Ganga (SMCG),

Government of Uttar Pradesh and 2030 Water Resources Group.

II. YOUTH FELLOWSHIP FOR WATER CHAMPIONS PROGRAM India Water Partnership in association with one of its partner organization Centre for Youth (C4Y) is promoting youth participation through Youth Fellowship for Water Champions by linking them to various organizations working in Water Resource Management and Climate Change. The selected fellows will undergo their internship and submit their learnings in form of report to IWP. In this regard, an orientation workshop was organized the details of which are as follows:

1. ORIENTATION WORKSHOP

A day-long orientation workshop for the selected

fellows was organized on Monday, June 03, 2019 at

Vishwa Yuvak Kendra, New Delhi. Mr. A C

(PP), MOWR; former Secretary General, ICID and

former Director – WMO presented insight into the

water issues and solutions in NCR region. Mr.

Rahul Naithani Communication Officer, IWP

oriented the fellows on the IWP activities and its

operational framework. Mr. Mangla Rai from IWP

and Dr. Sudha Nautiyal from C4Y also contributed proactively to orientation process.

Mrs. Alka Tomar, Chairperson, C4Y briefed the fellows on profile of C4Y and its on-going projects. She also

presented about the purpose of the fellowship along with the timeline, reporting mechanism, non-profit

partners and expected outcome from the Fellows. The team also conducted ice breaking session and building

vision board exercise with the fellows.

III. INCREASING FINANCE ACCESS TO WOMEN SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR FOR SMALL

WATER ENTERPRISE TO IMPROVE PUBLIC HEALTH

IWP with its network partner Safe Water Network India (SWNI) is undertaking the above activity as part of

its CORE activities. SWNI measures women empowerment through a set of indicators across the four areas

affecting gender equality in Global Gap Index. These are as under:

•Participation in water business

•Improved employment opportunities

•Breaking gender roles and stereotypes

•Increased level of self-efficacy and work efficiency

Economic Participation and Opportunity

•Skill development as Entrepreneur/Operator

•Financial literacy and bookkeeping, operational training

•Courseware availability to the women

•Efficiency standard through digital training, innovation, digital tools

Educational Attainment

•Improved health, reduced drudgery for water

•Reduced incidences of waterborne diseases

•Reduced health issues amongst pregnant women Health and Survival

IV. CAPACITY BUILDING OF LOCAL URBAN BODIES IN RAJASTHAN ON INTEGRATED

URBAN WATER MANAGEMENT (IUWM) TO ACHIEVE SUSTAINABLE

DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The above program is being carried out by IWP in collaboration with its partner organization ICLEI - South

Asia in Jaipur city to promote capacity building of local urban bodies. A training module was developed on

Rapid Integrated Urban Water Management. The module is based on IUWM toolkit developed under

AdoptIUWM and was implemented in Kishangarh and Ajmer cities in Rajasthan. The training module aimed

to help municipalities to build strategies to lose the urban water cycle loop within the cities. A set of case

studies as training material to support the training module was also worked on.

The pilot interventions implemented under the Integrated Urban Water Management Planning and

Implementation project in Ajmer and Kishangarh cities are developed as success stories to be disseminated at

the workshop.

A tentative agenda is developed to share the schedule and content of the training with potential municipalities

and state authorities.

V. COMMUNITY RESILIENCE TO WATER INDUCED DISASTERS AND CLIMATE

CHANGE: A STUDY AND DOCUMENTATION OF GOOD PRACTICES IN SELECTED RIVER

ISLANDS OF BRAHMAPUTRA RIVER BASIN, ASSAM.

This activity is being undertaken by IWP in association with its network partner,

Aaranayak. The project area is (i) Kobu Chapori, Dhemaji District, (ii) Majuli, Majuli District and

(iii) Majher Char, Dhubri District of Assam.

In the month of June, a detailed survey in Salmora area of Majuli was carried out covering two villages (i)

Bor Boka and (ii) Kamjaan Alengi, as per our action plan. The survey was conducted by intern researchers of

Aaranyak over 13 days during June 11-24, 2019. Household surveys were done using a structured

questionnaires and Focussed Group Discussions (FGD) were conducted using an open-ended questionnaire.

FGDs were done mainly with various livelihood groups such as those involved with pottery, boat making,

agriculture, fishing, carpentry, sericulture, weaving, livestock rearing and animal husbandry, wage labour etc.

The purpose of the survey was to assess their vulnerability and adaptation practices vis-à-vis disaster and

climate change impact. The survey is over, and the data are being analysed at present.

On June 26, 2019 a meeting was organized with prominent citizens of Majuli during 5.30 - 8.30 PM on the

theme „Sustainable management of the Brahmaputra River and the future of Majuli: Challenges and

Prospects‟ at the Prashanti Tourism Resort, Kamalabari, Majuli. The objective of the meeting was to know

and document perceptions of the intellectuals and think tank of Majuli on how to make the fragile island and

its people more resilient in the face of the challenges posed by water induced disasters and climate change.

A base map of Majuli has also been developed and is in the process of preparing the LU/LC map of the island.

The task carried out can be linked to the following policies, institutions and schemes: National Disaster

Management Act, 2005; National Policy for Disaster Management, 2009; National Action Plan on Climate

Change (NAPCC),2008; National Water Policy, 2012; Assam State Action Plan on Climate Change

(SAPCC), 2015; Prime Minister’s Awaas Yojana, Government of India; Assam State Rural Livelihood

Mission, Brahmaputra Board; Assam Agriculture Policy.

VI. WAPCOS LIMITED (HOST INSTITUTION OF INDIA WATER PARTNERSHIP AND GWP

NETWORK PARTNER) CELEBRATES ITS GOLDEN JUBILEE.

Day-1: Plantation and Cleaning Drive at banks along River Yamuna on 24th

June‟ 2019.

To commemorate its Golden Jubilee, WAPCOS Ltd.

(Host Institution of India Water Partnership & Global

Water Partnership) organized a pre-event by cleaning four

Ghats (sacred place in rivers as per Indian philosophy)

namely; Chhat Ghat, Kudsia Ghat, Yamuneshwar Ghat

and Shyam Ghat, located along the banks of River

Yamuna followed by plantation drive along the above

four Ghats on 24th

June, 2019. More than 600 persons

from WAPCOS Ltd., India Water Partnership (GWP-

India) staff and 7 network partners of GWP-India and

other NGOs (145 nos.) from Delhi-NCR participated in

the events for this noble cause. Theme of the event was

“Our River, Our Future” and “Plant Tree, Save Life”.

Rattan Lal Kataria, Hon’ble State Minister of Jal Shakti, Government of India was Guest of Honour graced this

historic occasion. This event was also attended by Mr U P Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government

of India, Ms. T. Rajeshwari, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India and senior

representatives of Central Water Commission, Central Ground Water Board and others. The Union Ministers and

Secretary, Jal Shakti joined by hundreds of volunteers, IWP network partners and employees of WAPCOS Ltd.

function. The dignitaries from abroad appreciated the good work done by WAPCOS Ltd. in socio-economic

development in their respective countries. Overall more than 1800 persons attended the mega event.

VII. NATIONAL CONFERENCE-CUM-EXHIBITION & AWARDS” ON

“INNOVATIVE WATER SOLUTIONS ORGANIZED BY ASSOCHAM ON 28TH

JUNE, 2019

The above conference was attended by Dr. Veena Khanduri, Executive Secretary -cum- Country Coordinator,

India Water Partnership on 28th

June, 2019.

The Associated Chamber of Commerce of India (ASSOCHAM) organized a “National Conference-cum-

Exhibition & Awards” on “Innovative Water Solutions” on 28th

June, 2019 at New Delhi. Objective of the

conference was to create knowledge sharing and networking platform for research & development,

demonstration & development of solutions in the context of water conservation, water treatment and water use

efficiency. The conference was attended by more than 70 participants including Government of India

representatives, industry representatives, academia, researchers and NGOs.

The conference was inaugurated by Mr. Ganjedra Singh Shekhawat, Hon’ble Minister of Jal Shakti,

Government of India. Addressing the audience, the Minister said that water is a common agenda and for this

common men/women and the Corporates have to come on one Board to achieve the Government stupendous

task to provide safe drinking water to every household by 2024.

Hon’ble Minister, Mr. Ganjedra Singh Shekhawat also stressed that Government of India is committed to stop

the flow of raw sewage into Ganga River by 2022. Mr. B. K. Goenka, President, ASSOCHAM said that the

ASSOCHAM is a front runner for technology promotion and would like to play an important role to bring

industries to play an important workable solutions for water conservation and management.
