Individual Ability and Effort
(cont.)O The anulus Aegyptius translation is the translation I
am most proud of because it was the onlytranslation this year that I did not need to look up
any definitions or grammar techniques.O I started my first translation, in Stage 1, with having
to look up every word because I was unfamiliarwith all of the vocabulary. I evolved from looking upevery word to being able to complete a translationwithout looking up a single word.
O This translation demonstrated how my work ethicshave really improved and I have become morefamiliar with problem solving.

Grammatical DilemmaO The coniuratio translation gave me the most
trouble with grammar because it introduced abrand new grammar technique. Usually the new
stages only introduce new vocabulary words and aminor grammar adjustment. This translation was inStage 13 which introduced a new verb case, etc.
O I do not feel I successfully learned the material inthis stage. I did not master this material yetbecause I just recently started the stage. With the
end of the year approaching quickly, I didnt haveenough time to learn the material thoroughly.

Compare and ContrastO This year we recorded two videos of
ourselves reading a passage in Latin and
answering questions about the story.O After comparing and contrasting the two
videos, I have come a long way fromwhere I was in the start of the year.

O
I attempted to read inLatin; it didnt turn outwell. When I wasasked a question, Ihad no idea what wasgoing on. I made up
ridiculous answers tothe questionsbecause I had no ideahow to read Latin.
O
I understand Latinmuch more now. Iwas able to read andunderstand what washappening in thestory. When I was
asked questions, Iwas able to answerthem honestly, andmostly correct.

Improving Range of
VocabularyO This year I took the SAT. The SAT consisted of a
reading and a writing section. Throughout thesesections, the creators of the SAT use anuncommon range of vocabulary. I was able to
identify a few of the words I did not know becausethey had a Latin root in them.
O For example, one of the words I didnt know wastacit. I remembered in one of the stages, one ofthe Latin words was tacet. From learning thattacet meant silently, I was able to come to the
conclusion that tacit meant something along thelines of saying something silently. I did well on thereading and writing sections of the SAT, so Latindefinitely played an important factor in receiving ahigher score.

Cultural UnitsO Two cultural projects I am the most proud
of are: the final project (optional) and the
skit from a Latin play we performed infront of the class.
O I am the most proud of these two unitsbecause it demonstrated who I am as aperson. The final project portrayed that Iam creative and neat. The skit displayedthat I am outgoing and fun.

Final Project Latin Skit
O
Griffin and I created alabyrinth. We createda labyrinth out of tiles. We glued the tilesonto a woodenbackground that we
painted white. It cameout really nice, and Ifeel it portrayed mefor who I am.
O
Griffin, Craig, and Iacted out a skit in aLatin play. We translatedthe lines from Latin intoEnglish. We put oncostumes and tried toact as our character
would. This reallyportrayed me for whatmy personality is like.

Final Reflection (Part 1)O During the self-placed Latin: Year One course,
I encountered a few setbacks and triumphs. For example, on Stage 11, we translated
Marcus et Quartus. This translation reallyaffected my self confidence because theverbs were supposed to be interpreted in adifferent way. I didnt realize that until after Icompleted the translation and realized I did itentirely wrong. This really made me upset and
I wanted to give up and skip the translation.Griffin helped me overcome my distress, andwe translated the story again, properly.

Final Reflection (Part 1)
(cont.)O As a student, I learned that I am not
motivated to do work on my own. I look to
take the easy way out, unless I ampushed by a teacher. I learned that I needto become more organized and spreadout my work load, rather than cramming itall in last minute.

Final Reflection (Part 2)O I have to be honest when I say I do not
see my life connecting to the ancient
Romans and this dead language. Timeshave changed so much, and I cant find a
significant connection to where I relatewith them.
