FALL WORSHIP SCHEDULE – USHERS NEEDED New worship schedules are being prepared for September through November. If you would like to begin participating in a worship ministry – Altar Guild, Assisting Ministers, Communion Ministers, Greeters, Healing Ministers, Processional Team, Sound Techs, Ushers, Welcome Table, or Choir – please see Kevin Anderson or write this on your “Yellow Card” and we’ll be in touch with you soon. Especially, we could use a few more ushers so we only need to schedule everyone only once a month.

ST. PHILIP COUNSELING CENTER RECEIVES SYNOD TOGETHER IN MISSION GRANT FOR 2017! For the third year (and last year of the grant request) in a row our St. Philip Lutheran Church Counseling Center has received a grant from the Florida-Bahamas Synod fund called “Together in Mission.” $1,500 for 2017! Thank you brothers and sisters in Christ across our Florida-Bahamas Synod for supporting Together in Mission! We use this grant money (total for the 3

years is $5,500) for assistance to help pay for counseling service fees for clients unable to pay or for whom insurance coverage does not pay. Note: the portion of our St. Philip Mission Basket monthly offering that goes to Lutheran Counseling Services, Inc. (LCS) goes to fund our annual congregational partnership with LCS, something separate from this client assistance.

Join our Evangelical Lutheran Church in America across the country observing God’s work/Our hands Service Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017. Thousands of congregations serving in our communities! ST. PHILIP ENDOWMENT FUND ISSUES 2017 GRANTS TO ST. PHILIP AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS FOR SIGNIFICANT POSITIVE IMPACTS!! In 2017 there is $13,231 2016 income to the Fund from 2016 that was available to be used for Grants. As of July 18, 2017 the Council approved the following disbursements of grants from this $13,231

-Lake Hills School for special needs children: $1000

- St Philip Lutheran Church Counseling Center: $1,500

-Help Agency of the Forest, Inc.: $1,500

- ELCA fund for leaders studying at ELCA seminaries: $1,500

-3 scholarships for Higher Education (College) Expenses: $1,000 (total of all 3)

-2 exterior video security systems with 4 cameras each for St. Philip campus: $1,000

-SPLC Family Life Center Kitchen Equipment and Facility Upgrade: $2,000

-Lake Cares Food Pantry: $1,500 Annual Process for Determining Use of Income to the Fund Each year the Endowment Team, based on criteria directed by the Fund, make recommendations to the Council for disbursement of monies (Grants) that are income to the Fund itself. As of December 31, 2016 the Fund balance was $264,630. In 2017 the Endowment Team accepted applications for Grants from the Fund for use of actual income to the Fund from 2016 and made recommendations to Council for action.

Remember the St. Philip Endowment Fund in Your Giving The Saint Philip Endowment Fund was established to support the work and mission of Saint Philip Lutheran Church in and beyond our community. It is an opportunity to leave a legacy. Contribution to this Endowment Fund can occur in a number of ways and will have a tax advantage. Gifts can be made through:

Bequests in Wills or Living Trusts Beneficiaries of Retirement or Pension Plans Assignments of Life Insurance Charitable Gift Annuities Charitable Remainder Trusts Assignments of Certificates of Deposits Transfers of Property such as cash, stocks, bonds and real estate

PARISH HALL ROOF REPLACEMENT APPROVED AT JULY 9 SPECIAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING Thanks for all who attended the Special Congregational Meeting on July 9! The following actions were taken (if you would like further information contact President Don Martin through the Church Office).

1. Approved decision to replace and not repair the Parish Hall Roof.

2. Approved replacing the Parish Hall Roof with contract with Eustis Roofing for

$31,850.

3. Approved use of the following funds for payment: $25,000 from the Building

Maintenance Designated Fund account and the remainder of the expense (up to

$7,000) from a designated fund account at the discretion of the Congregational

Council.

4. Authorization for this project only to the Congregational Council to transfer or use

designated funds.
