26th November 2017 Last Sunday of Church Year It is good that you have responded to the call of God’s Spirit by gathering with God’s people in worship this morning. Welcome to St Petri! We are glad you are here. Today is the last Sunday in the church’s year. It is called the Day of Fulfilment. We hear that vision of the final day of the Lord where Judge Jesus will make a final call on our lives. The Shepherd will eventually and finally draft his sheep and goats. It is not a comfortable thought – people being drafted out of the flock for good. Makes you wonder which way you will go when the judge comes to judge all things and people. But there are some surprising hints about us who are baptised into Christ today. In fact, both the sheep and the goats are very surprised by how the judge makes his final judgement. They are surprised where he said he was with them throughout their life-time. Last Sunday of Church Year

It is good that you have

responded to the call of

God’s Spirit by gathering

with God’s people in

worship this morning.

Welcome to St Petri! We

are glad you are here.

Today is the last Sunday

in the church’s year. It is

called the Day of

Fulfilment. We hear that

vision of the final day of

the Lord where Judge

Jesus will make a final

call on our lives. The

Shepherd will eventually

and finally draft his

sheep and goats.

It is not a comfortable

thought – people being

drafted out of the flock

for good. Makes you

wonder which way you

will go when the judge

comes to judge all things

and people.

But there are some

surprising hints about us

who are baptised into

Christ today. In fact,

both the sheep and the

goats are very surprised

by how the judge makes

his final judgement. They

are surprised where he

said he was with them

throughout their life-time.

We pray that today you

are surprised by where

Jesus is in your life and

surprised by the Good

Shepherd and given

confidence to continue

to live out his calling to

serve people and

planet.

In peace

Pastor Adrian

Movie Night - Christmas with a Capital C (putting Christ back in Christmas)

Christmas has always been an exceptional time of love and tradition in the small town of Trapper Falls, Alaska. When Dan’s old high school rival Mitch Bright returns home after 20 years, he takes offense to what he sees as the town’s violation of his rights. Mitch wants the Nativity scene removed from the front of City Hall and the word Christmas switched to Happy Holidays. ‘Christmas with a Capital “C”’ is launched as an effort to keep the town together.

A big THANKYOU to the many people that were involved in our St Petri 150th ‘Sunday School Picnic’ held on the grounds of Coulthard House on the 12th of November. Celebrations at the picnic began soon after 12 noon, with a crowd of approximately 100 people enjoying a pooled lunch, as we sheltered under shady trees and marquees provided. After lunch our picnic race games began, and it was fantastic to see every generation getting involved in the fun and laughter of the races. First, we had the classic Egg and Spoon race, followed by the well-known ‘Tunnel Ball’ race. The crowd had the opportunity to be involved, cheer others on … or just relax in the shade and enjoy the celebrations which included some very delicious anniversary cake. Other races such as the water relay, water balloon throw and the sack race were enjoyed by our children, youth, parents and grandparents. (We must share that Pastor Adrian is VERY good at the sack race. He looked a little exhausted by the end … but who wouldn’t be!)

One race, namely our ‘Spectacular Wheelbarrow Race’ was enjoyed by our enthusiastic adults. It involved real wheelbarrows and speed! If you were watching the race, you would have seen wheelbarrow race participants such as Libby & Phil Krahling, Marie & Gottfried Kunze, Lyle & Kay Rohrlach and Luke Rothe. Our picnic races finale was ‘Tug of War’, which was led by our chairman Greg Schubert. The competition was tough and the fight from both children and adults was especially hard, but good fun was had by all. It was extra special to have some of our Hand in Hand Centre families join us for the picnic and overall it was a great crowd of picnic goers for such a warm day. Throughout the running races, we also had guessing games such as ‘Guess the names of our St Petri Pastors’, ‘Guess how many lollies are in the Jar’ and ‘Guess the weight of the Jar’. The children and adults also enjoyed other activities such as making pasta necklaces, colouring in, blowing bubbles, dressing up in old time clothes for the photo booth, how many pegs can you grab off the line game, giant Jenga and more. Our day finished with the announcement of our guessing game winners and a ‘dandy’ ice-cream for all. Perfect! Our 150th Anniversary Picnic day was a huge team effort and I want to thank the many people who helped to set up, run activities, stalls and races, first aid support and pack up. A big thank you to two servant-hearted ladies, Jeannette Hanckel and Sue Vogt for helping to plan and coordinate a fantastic picnic.

All glory be to God for our St Petri 150th Anniversary and for all that is yet to come.
