• from “hospitium” (Latin) meaning “guesthouse” - a place of shelterwhere travelers, pilgrims and the sick, wounded or dying could find rest and comfort

• Not a Place

• A CONCEPT of CARE designed to give comfort and support tothe dying

• Neither hastens nor postpones death

• AFFIRMS LIFE and regards dying a NORMAL PROCESS

• Focuses on CARING, not Curing.

HOSPICE:


• Each of us has the right to die PAIN FREE and with DIGNITY

• Families should receive the necessary support for us to do so(Bereavement, counseling, legal services and support)

To Accomplish This:

• Hospice creates a CARING COMMUNITY

• TEAM ORIENTED approach to medical care, painmanagement, and emotional/spiritual support customized to thepatients needs and wishes

• To Prepare for a Death that is Satisfactory

• To IMPROVE the QUALITY of a Patient’s Last Daysby Offering Comfort and Dignity
