Laser Skin Resurfacing

Ablative vs. Non-Ablative

• Ablative procedures target both superficial & deeper layers of skin.

• Light sedation• Fewer treatments• Brief recovery

• Non-ablative procedures target tissue under the skin to stimulate collagen production.

• No sedation• Multiple treatments• No downtime

Am I a candidate for laser skin resurfacing?

• Wrinkles, creases & lines

• Sun damage• Pigmentation

problems • Scars• Loss of skin

elasticity

How does ablative resurfacing work?

Healing produces new skin unaffected by previous imperfections.

Damaged outer layers of skin are vaporized.

• Face• Neck

Commonly treated areas….

•Chest•Hands

Prior to resurfacing….

• Sun avoidance & SPF• Oral supplements• Prescription creams

Your resurfacing procedure…

• Light sedation• 30 to 90 minutes• Rubber band “snap”• Protective ointment• Cool compresses• Oral medication• Rest

Recovery…

After your resurfacing procedure…

• You will have an average of 3-7 days of “downtime.”

• During this time, your skin will have a red or bronze appearance and you must apply ointment to keep the skin moist.

• Dr. Bath will see you the day after for a follow up appointment.

“Downtime”

• Downtime is social downtime- you will feel fine, but look like you’ve had a laser treatment. This downtime is important to minimize risk of infection.

• Your face will appear red, bronze, and may have scabbing or oozing.

• Important to follow aftercare to minimize risks.

• Next slides follow patients through a resurfacing to illustrate healing and what you can expect.
