Dear Parishioners,

On this Ascension Sunday I

invite you to once again be a

part of a task that is necessary

and just. I also want to take

the opportunity to thank you

for your ongoing support all

these years as we share the

common responsibility to run

this parish and keep its doors

open for ourselves and others.

This weekend, we are

giving you our 2013 Annual

Finance Report which is pre-

pared by the Parish Finance

Council. In it you will see a

reflection of the blessings and

the challenges we face when

it comes to running and main-

taining our parish in all as-

pects. Please take a moment of

serious analysis so that next

weekend we can speak to you

about it during the mass.

As usual, our expenses come

in the same categories as eve-

ry other household or busi-

ness: property taxes, utilities,

insurance, salaries and bene-

fits, office expenses building

& grounds repair, building

maintenance and the archdi-

ocesan assessment (normally

15% of our total Sunday

offertory), etc. You may have no-

ticed in the chart on the fol-

lowing page, that during 2013

our expenses were less than

our contributions which is a

sign of the efforts we make

to spend responsibly. In 2012

we had a shortfall of

$5,241.53 which forced us to

review our expenses and im-

plement changes in order to

prioritize our expenses as

much as possible. However,

keep in mind that those priori-

ties included the assignment of

an assistant priest which in the

years to come will bring our

expenses up again. It is im-

portant to know that the Spe-

cial Diocesan Collections are

forwarded directly to the

Archdiocese.

An important and long over-

due item to report to you re-

volves around the Renova-

tions and Capital Cam-paign. This is a rather com-

plex item to present to you

without proper explanation

and we are going to take the

time next weekend to do our

best to show you the overall

picture of where we are in

relation to this matter.

You will be surprised to know

that $1.5 million has been

spent to date repairing the par-

ish of St. Jude. This work in-

cluded fundamental repairs

such as repairing the HVAC,

waterproofing the building,

remediating toxic materials,

refurbishing the rectory, re-

placing parts of the Church's 7

roofs and much more.

Although some of these re-

pairs may not have been visi-

ble, they were fundamental

and ensure that our parish will

remain viable for many years.

The money that was spent on

the improvements was funded

through loans from the archdi-

ocese, gifts in kind (lighting,

sound system, rectory renova-

tions, etc.), and from the gen-

erosity of you, the parishion-

ers.

Since the start of the Capital

Campaign in 2009 and

through your monthly building

fund collection donations,

pledges, gifts to the capital

campaign, and attendance at

events such as the Annual Ga-

la Dinner Auction, we have

been able to self-fund a good

portion of the necessary work

– total funds raised to date is

approximately $1.1 million.

We are currently in the fifth

year of the campaign and still

need your support. Currently

there is still approximately

$350,000 outstanding on the

loan from the Archdiocese.

We will need to ask you to

continue to be generous. Just

as in our own residences, re-

pairs are both necessary and

ongoing. We will need your

help and support to make the-

se vital repairs: for exam-

ple, sections of the other flat

roofs are leaking and need

attention; the fire alarm panel

is malfunctioning and requires

replacement; there is more

HVAC work required in the

basement, including insulating

the radiator pipes and, of

course, we need to repay our

loan from the archdiocese.

If you are presently not using

envelopes, please consider

doing so. A tax receipt is is-

sued for those who make use

of the envelopes giving you a

chance to increase your contri-

butions and support in the

event that you personally

don’t want the benefit, but you

can do it for the benefit of

your church. I thank you for

all the support you give to the

parish in order to maintain its

doors are open.

We, Finance, Building and

Capital Campaign Committees

wish to thank you for your

help in order to accomplish

our goals and for your contin-

ued support in keeping St.

Jude's parish strong spiritually

and physically. Finance Council, Building

Committee, Capital Cam-

paign Committee.

would you like to have in your life?

Ascension of the Lord

Today’s readings describe the ascension of the Lord Jesus into his heavenly glory after promising his disciples his Holy Spirit as their source of heavenly power, and after commanding them to bear witness to him by their lives and preaching throughout the world. But the ascended Jesus is still with us through his indwelling Holy Spirit as he has promised, "I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.”

the Archdiocese Toronto that preparation

for the Sacraments takes place at the Par-

Parish, which are South of Finch, North of

Hwy 401, East of Humber River and West

of Hwy 400, and attend Sunday mass regu-

to Pre-register your child by attending the

parish office in person or, if it is difficult

for you to do so, by sending us an e-mail

([email protected]) so that we

can forward the form to you for your con-

venience.

This year, our parish is planning these pro-

grams earlier so as to allow the parish and

the parents to plan more effectively and be

able to commit to the expectations of each

program before your calendar begins to get

too busy.
