The Larks is a vibrant nursery that offers the highest standards of care for children aged from 3 months to 5 years. An integral part of Hazelwood School, the nursery is located on the same site as the school’s reception facilities. This provides a co-ordinated early years unit and affords children from The Larks a seamless progression to Hazelwood, if this is your choice.

The spacious site off Bluehouse Lane – close to Oxted railway station – forms a secure setting, with fabulous outdoor areas. Open for 50 weeks of the year, The Larks offers a choice of childcare sessions between 7am and 7pm, although parents can use the nursery only during term time, if they prefer.

The Larks provides a caring, stimulating and safe environment in which each child’s emotional, physical and academic abilities are nurtured. Our fun learning programme is one in which even the youngest children can actively participate, building both independence and self-esteem.

We work within the statutory framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which defines the development and care required to ensure that children aged from 0 to 5 years achieve their full potential. All learning in the EYFS is achieved through play, with a mixture of child-initiated and teacher-directed activities. The Larks is registered with Ofsted and subject to regular inspections by its EYFS specialists.

Imaginative play is vital to children’s development, helping their knowledge, skills and confidence to grow. With the emphasis on having fun, our children look forward to coming to The Larks and enjoy their time at nursery.

Learning Through Play

Our staff are carefully selected to provide friendly, caring and secure childcare. We employ only experienced, qualified and motivated staff, who are thoroughly checked and regularly appraised.

The children’s care is of paramount importance and we have defined welfare and security policies in place. Each day, your key worker will complete a record of your child’s experiences – including learning and play activities, eating, toileting or nappy changes and sleeping – to share with you.

The Larks features separate rooms for each age group, with facilities appropriate for the Wrens (3 months to 2 years), Robins (2 to 3 years) and Skylarks (3 to 4 years). From September 2010, the reception classes of Hazelwood School will also be accommodated at The Larks. We have a wide range of learning resources and toys, as well as a soft play space and use of the hall for music and movement. Outdoors, the children enjoy the lawn with its climbing equipment and the large, surfaced play area.
