Recent home buyers and longtime residents of Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club are choosing to expand their lifestyles – and views – by purchasing in newly introduced neighborhoods with large home sites for luxury Grand Estate Homes and Beach Houses. Lori Melheim, project manager for Randall Mitchell Custom Homes, has noticed a definite trend this past year. She and husband Mitch are working with three private clients whose homes will each span over 6,000 square feet under air.

All three homes, Lori said, are loosely based on the builder’s 6,136-square-foot designer-furnished Hemingway Grand Estate model.

“One client wanted two master suites, another wanted a game room, an exercise room and modern architecture,” she said. “They pick elements they like in the model, features they want and the result is a completely custom home.”

Expect an emphasis on lighter fare, summer salads and seasonal ingredients while dining at the Blue Water Beach Grill or the Beach Clubhouse this summer. Miromar Lakes’ talented culinary team continues to expand its seed-to-table and farm-to-table focus by sourcing local produce and poultry and fresh Gulf shrimp, the latter the star of Blue Water’s new spicy shrimp flatbread (think lightly tempura battered shrimp with Monterey Jack cheese and caramelized onions drizzled with Bang Bang sauce).

“We change the menu four times a year to capture seasonal selections,” said Executive Chef Julien Lancrerot. “We’ve been implementing seed-to-table with our local vendors and continue to move in that direction.”

Look forward to spending more time at the beautiful Beach Clubhouse which will serve dinner Wednesday through Sunday. Friday and Saturday are still devoted to fine dining (and Chef’s famous Dover sole). The other evenings will feature a smaller dinner menu with six or so entrées.

The Blue Water Beach Grill is open daily for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For a healthy option, try the new kale and red quinoa salad with red onions, garbanzo beans and miso vinaigrette.

SIP Tacos & Tequila Cantina at University Village offers over 100 tequilas (we counted!) including 27 on the VIP list that are so smooth they’re meant to be nursed. There’s

also another 70 or so conveniently categorized by age – blanco, reposado and anejo. For those who’d prefer the mainstay (like with ice and a homemade mix of lime juice and triple sec), T&T has delicious house margaritas – two for one all day on Tuesdays and Sundays … Marys and Mimosas at Miromar Outlets: Brunch lovers have happily discovered six mimosa flavors (blackberry-thyme and fresh watermelon, among them) as well as the mightiest of Bloody Marys loaded with candied bacon and chipotle peppers at Brunch Bar & Patio … At Smoothie King and The Shaved Ice Bar, both at University Village (or UV as the locals call it), cool off with a nearly endless combination of flavored ices as powdery as fresh-fallen snow or try an angel food raspberry or fitness blend smoothie.

Chances are if Miromar Lakes residents are not at the Blue Water Beach Grill or the Beach Clubhouse, you’ll find them sampling the global cuisine and signature cocktails at the new restaurants in University Village Shops and Miromar Outlets. From Thai and TexMex to Venezuelan and brunch and breakfast faves, several new establishments are now open just mere minutes from Miromar Lakes. Here’s a roundup and recommendations of what to order:

SAVOR Specializing in Thai and Japanese cuisine, Thai Udon Café at UV makes a killer panang, the sauce so tasty you just might want to soak up every last drop. Customers also rave about the lobster teriyaki and

fried bananas … Breakfast is always on the menu (lunch, too!) at Skillets which stays busy right until its 2:30 p.m. closing time. Deciding is the hardest part. The University Village restaurant is known for its thick-cut smokehouse bacon, Chicago-style blintzes and smashed avocado toast and also features a helpful top 12 on its website. No matter what you order, it will be excellent but repeat visits will be necessary … Foodies are discovering the Spanish, African, Indian and European influences on Venezuelan cuisine at Fusion 212 in Miromar Outlets. The international mélange of flavors includes arepas (corn pancakes served with cheese, shredded beef and greens) meat-stuffed empanadas; and pabellón criollo (a plated combination of rice, shredded beef stew and black beans) . . . Wasabi Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Lounge, also in the outlet mall, offers hibachi and kitchen entrées, Bento lunch boxes and some of the freshest and most flavorful sushi around.

Come Monday… It’ll be All Right Trick question: What’s made with blue Curaçao, vanilla vodka and espresso? Answer: The three most requested cocktails during Martini Mondays from 5 to 7 p.m.!

Oh, Snap!The fun never stops! Residents — from the very youngest to the snappiest dressed — enjoy Miromar Lakes’ daily “social network” and special events. Children donned their Easter finery to hunt for eggs and visit with the Bunny during our yearly Easter Brunch and moms were honored in May at our annual Mother’s Day Brunch. Residents were even dancing in the streets (OK, by the pool) during Motown by Moonlight while the Hearts of Miromar recognized the best-dressed man and best Derby hat at its annual Kentucky Derby party. And we were there to enjoy the camaraderie and snap photos.

Tennis Association’s Bonita-Estero League … Madisen’s Match raised $130,000 for Southwest Florida charities serving pediatric and adult cancer patients. Miromar Lakes hosted the gala and several events on the courts.

Regularly scheduled programs including tennis clinics, Thursday men’s round robins and Saturday mixers are on hiatus in July and August but will return in mid-September. In the meantime, check out these programs and fun events!INTRODUCING CARDIO TENNIS: Mike Barnes leads two weekly sessions for men and women. Designed to strengthen legs and increase heart rate, the fast-paced program is offered

Mondays from 10 to 11 a.m. for women and Fridays from 9 to 10 a.m. for men on the tennis courts.

Kudos to KenKen McMaster, director of golf and membership at Miromar Lakes Golf Club, has been

named PGA Professional of the Year, the highest honor given by the PGA’s Southwest Chapter. Recipients are nominated by their peers in recognition of excellence in promoting the game and dedication to mentoring the future leaders of golf.

McMaster received the Bill Strausbaugh Award in 2016 and 2017 from the PGA’s South Florida Section and the Southwest Chapter’s Horton Smith Award in 2009.

The golf course is closed for maintenance July 9 through August 20.
