4 Models to meet your Requirements

Lambda 130 PlusThe Lambda 130 is the top of the line versionfeaturing a 5-position paper for the unexposedmedia (paper, backlit, clear film, flex media)or different media widths or surfaces from 50.8 cm (20 in.) up to 127 cm (50 in.).

This allows very fast access to the requiredmedia without the need to physically load andunload it. You can handle mixed orders or cali-brate a new emulsion without slowing down orinterrupting production. The requested mediais menu-selected from the computer (Autolo-ad-Function) and the turret will automaticallymove into the right position and start with theexposure with almost no media waste.

Lambda 131/Lambda 131 PlusThe Durst Lambda 131 Large Format DigitalLaser Imager offers exactly the same featuresas the Lambda 130 with the only difference ofa single position instead of the 5-positionpaper turret. It is fully upgradeable to a DurstLambda 130 with 5-position paper turret.

Lambda 131 Plus features a two times higherlinear imaging speed at 200 ppi compare toLambda 131 (60 cm/24 in. per min. instead of30 cm/12 in. per min.).

Lambda Pi 50The budget-priced Durst Lambda Pi 50 offersexactly the same features as the Lambda 130with the only differences being a single positi-on instead of the 5-position paper turret, atake-up tray instead of an automatic take-upunit and a lower power green laser; it also usesa slightly lower powered computer. The onlylimitations to the Lambda Pi 50 are the maxi-mum print length of 14 m (46 ft) and that itcan print to RA 4 media only. It is fully upgra-deable to a Durst Lambda 131 with a fullyautomatic paper take-up system and powerfulgreen laser to expose any media or to a Lambda 130 with a 5-position paper turret.

Lambda RS Version for Direct Digital Remote SensingAll Durst Lambda versions can be factory-adju-sted to meet the exacting standards of theGeomatics community.

The Durst Lambda RS Imaging Technology for Remote Sensing, Aerial Photography and Cartography offers the highest sizing and geo-metric precision of plus or minus 0.03 %, corresponding to plus or minus 0.4 mm (milli-meter) over a writing area of 127 x 127 cm (50 x 50 in.).

The unique and patented Durst Lambda con-tinuous roll to roll single beam, 3-laser (RGB)exposure system offers total size flexibility andachieves an image quality which is superior toall large format printers - photographic, inkjetand electrostatic. The Durst Lambda exposesdigital information (raster pixel) directly toconventional photographic media at full conti-nuous tone with a linear writing speed of up to60 cm (24 in.) per minute with the choice oftwo resolutions of 200 and 400 ppi (equal toan apparent resolution of 4000 dpi). The Lamb-da produces images with the highest possibleresolution (68 billion colors) and with a radio-metric repeatability of 0.025 D per color.

Roll paper in thewidths from 50.8 cm (20 in.) to127 cm (50 in.).Print sizes exeedingthe max. paper-width are automati-cally devided-upand exposed instrips.

The Key Features

Direct digital printing with unsurpassedimage and text quality Durst Lambda 130 Series combine theadvantages of classical silver halide photo-graphy with the potential of the latest laserand digital technology, without an interme-diate film stage - and without the compro-mises of CMYK output, This new technologyoffers superior color saturation and fidelity, better image quality, more details and shar-per type than other alternatives (customerstatement). It also provides a number ofadvantages over conventional enlarge-ments, including improved image qualitywith no image distortion and no loss ofimage sharpness, perfect edge to edge shar-pness and evenness, a reduction in timespent handling images, and a decrease inthe cost of materials.

The Durst Lambda 130 Series operate witha full 36-bit RGB color space (68 billioncolors) to ensure excellent control over thelight source and to produce faithful colorreproductions.

Sharp images, text and graphics withexceptional details at full contrastThe Durst Lambda Digital Imaging Techno-logy ensures a constant pixel size andintensity over the entire image. The paten-ted Durst continuous roll to roll laser expo-sing system ensures no parasite light duringthe exposure for perfect image white andhighest contrast range.

Apparent resolution up to 4000 dpiThe Durst Lambda 130 series feature a dual, autoswitchable resolution of 200 and 400full continuous tone pixels per inch (ppi)with on-the-fly pixel interpolation. The 400ppi full continuous-tone resolution of theDurst Lambda 130 Series is comparable witha resolution of 4000 dpi of printers withhalf-tone dots.

High output speedExposes all media with the same high linearspeed of up to 60 cm (24 in.) per minute.Compared with other digital systems theLambda is "remarkably faster" (approx. 40prints 100 x 130 cm/40 x 50 in. per hour).

Print production without size limitations Thanks to the patented, continuous roll toroll exposure system with perfect edge toedge sharpness and evenness, the DurstLambda 130 Series (with the exception ofthe Lambda Pi 50, which can print up to 14 m/46 ft) have no print size limitations itcan virtually generate any print size fromicons to large murals (with auto- andcustom panelling functions). One seamlessprint can be as long as one entire 127 cm(50 in.) roll (50 m/164 ft). Print sizes excee-ding the max. paper width are automatical-ly divided-up and exposed in sections. Ope-rator can select how oversized panels aresplit. The desired overlap is adjustable. Thisallows you offer new print sizes, create newand exiting products and to enter new mar-ket segments.

On-the-fly image corrections and pixelinterpolation All image sizing and image corrections, suchas color, density, contrast, sharpening aswell as cropping is done on-the-fly withoutany additional computing time.

Sharp images, text and graphics withexceptional details at full contrastThe digital imaging technology ensures aconstant pixel size and intensity over theentire image. The patented Durst conti-nuous roll to roll laser exposing systemensures no parasite light during the exposu-re for perfect image white and highest con-trast range.

All in oneThe unique size flexibility does no longerrequire to split the orders because of diffe-rent print sizes. With the Durst Lambda youcan handle all print sizes for one order withthe same device with perfect color and den-sity match and reduced production costs.

Fully automatic take-up systemWith almost no media waste.

Large customer base and high customersatisfactionWith over 600 units sold worldwide (as perEnd of April2001), the Durst Lambda hasthe highest install base of all large formatdigital photo printers. In addition, morethan 80 customers have multiple units upto 5 Lambda in the same location and labchains have up to 20 Lambda running suc-cessfully, which confirms the high customersatisfaction.

Durst Lambda has become quickly a newindustry standard for high-end large formatprinting. It has rapidly gained a reputationfor high productivity and flexibility, produ-cing the finest quality of small and largeformat reflective and backlit prints fromdigital files.

Flexibility and Productivity

On-the fly interpolationThe image files loaded on the hard disk areautomatically scaled (enlarged or reducedby interpolation) according to the print sizeselected and without the need to create asecond file according to the output sizefrom the smallest print size up to giantenlargements without reciprocity failure.

Paneling/Tiling FeaturePrint sizes exceeding the maximumpaper width are automatically divi-ded into strips and exposed with cutmarks. This automatic tiling includesthe following options:• division to match paper width• all the panels with the same width• direct input of a required panel

width (custom panel width)• direct input of a required panel

length

The exact panel setting can then bemodified as needed by the user. Therequired overlap can be set.

Page 7: Large Format Digital Laser Imagersserranorey.com/brochures/Lambda-130-E.pdf · Lambda 130 with 5-position paper turret. Lambda 131 Plus features a two times higher linear imaging

Image croppingAny part of the image can be crop-enlargedwithout postprocessing. A special interpola-tion procedure recalculates and generatesthe pixels involved, and so substantiallyenhances the image quality in comparisonto conventional enlargements.

Fast and economical printing of largequantity jobs with small print sizesWith the „Multiple Print Function", printruns are automatically duplicated (cloned)on-the-fly and printed side by side for fastoperation, minimum disk space and optimaluse of large paper widths.

Mixed orders of different images andprint sizes can be printed the Durst „Auto-nesting Function" (Patents Pending), whichautomatically prints different files and dif-ferent print sizes side by side includingpanels which will fit side by side. Beside theeasy, fast and fully automated operation, the Durst Autonesting cuts down the wastedramatically and is a great time saver.

The digital image information controls theblue, green and red colours of the threelasers, which are merged into one beam.

This single beam simultaneously exposesall three layers (yellows, magenta and cyan)on the photo-material, and so produces thelatent image in one pass.

No reciprocity failureThe Durst Lambda gets rid of the familiarproblem of reciprocity failure when themagnification and exposure time are chan-ged. Since the exposure time and thedistance between the laser light source andthe paper are always the same, regardless ofthe material and magnification, the recipri-city effect does not occur.

Lambda Software 7.0

MGE i-cut Software (optional) The MGE i-cut software module for anAutomatic Workflow in conjunction withthe Zünd MGE i-cut cutting system for fullyautomated cutting of mounted Lambdaprints on rigid media. The Durst PrinterSoftware will automatically create the refe-rence points on the image for single, multi-ple or also nested prints. This will save muchtime and labour costs on the file preparati-on for a given job and you will be able toprint, process, and finish-cut all your ima-ges printed on the Lambda with a minimalamount of manual labor.

The Durst Lambda ASCII file solutionoffers the following advantages:• Total flexibility for each file in terms ofprint size, package, color and density cor-rection, contrast and saturation corrections, etc.• Automatic image scaling: depending onthe selected print size, the Durst Autospoo-ling software will automatically scale thefiles to fit.• Only one hot folder necessary, as theresolution is listed in the ASCII file• Files are no longer copied into the hotfolder. Instead of that, the ASCII file con-tains the complete image path where thefile is located (can be any network-connec-ted Win or UNIX station) and the Lambdawill automatically pick it up from there forprinting, but the original file will alwaysstay there. This allows a very fast operationand reduces copying and network traffic.• All files you scan or capture with a digitalcamera can immediately be stored on thefinal archival computer/hard disk/RAID, etc.• Allows you to automatically add logos, signatures, texts or graphics on 6 selectablelocations (Photos with logo of photogra-pher, Christmas cards, greeting cards forother occasions, image with special borders, anything you can create with Photoshop,Illustrator, etc and saved as TIFF).

Powerful HP Workstation (Alpha-Risc-Processor) Loaded with HP Tru64 (Digital UNIX) opera-ting system (64 bit) and Lambda softwarewith integrated high performance Post-Script-RIP by Durst Dice America (400 MBin approx. 1 minute with automatic CMYKto RGB conversion).

On-the-fly Image ProcessingProprietary UNIX-based Durst user softwarewith patented on-the-fly image processingfor very fast and reliable production withminimum hard disk usage (on-the-fly pixelinterpolation/scaling, color, density, con-trast, saturation and sharpening corrections, color to black and white conversion, crop-ping, etc.). This feature completely elimina-tes the need to create additional printingfiles and therefore drastically reduces theoverall printing time providing very fastoperation with minimum hard disk usage. Inaddition, it allows to print any size print atmaximum resolution and does not requirere-ripping of the file in case of changes areapplied.

Due to this unique feature the DurstLambda offers an unmatched real net productivity of up to 45 sq.m/hr. or 500 sq.ft./hr.

Easy and fast media calibrationThe Durst Lambda features an extremelyeasy-to-use calibration system with a digital test image. Even with extreme devia-tions a new paper type can be calibrated inapproximately three passes. Operation islimited to just three steps:1. Exposure of the test print2. Reading of the test print with the

optional on-line densitometer (automatically)

3. Automatical calculation of the corrections (new calibration values) by the system.

Master channelThe paper channel calibration values can bequickly adjusted to any chemical drifts viathe master channel.

Efficient print queue managerThe Durst Lambda has a queue feature forefficient and fast operation. This allows theoperator to prepare and automaticallyexpose the jobs. All the queued jobs can beautomatically sorted by paper width andtype. The image file placed last in the queuealways comes first. The remaining length iscalculated and displayed for each single job, taking the previous jobs into account.

Software Key Features Dual, autoswitchable resolution of 200and 400 ppiDurst Lambda features a dual, autoswitcha-ble resolution of 200 and 400 continuoustone pixels per inch (ppi) with on-the-flypixel interpolation. The 400 ppi continuous-tone resolution of the Durst Lambda iscomparable with a resolution of 4000 dpi ofprinters with half-tone dots.

Autonesting For optimum media use and fast printingthis feature allows to automatically printdifferent files and different print sizes sideby side

Batch processing For very fast operation of documents withmultiple pages or print runs.

Multiple Printing Print runs are automatically and on-the-flyduplicated (cloned) and printed side by sidefor fast operation, minimum disk space andoptimal use of large paper widths.

AutospoolingWith the Autospooling software for ASCIIfiles, the Lambda will automatically pick-upthe files from any network-connected Win-dows 95/98, NT/XP or UNIX computer (viahot folder), automatically apply the presetcorrections, scale the files, insert logos, create units, arrange packages, nest theprints for optimum paper use and print thefiles in the requested quantity with theDurst Autocutter Barcode Information forfully automated, unattended cutting withthe Durst Autocutter XY.

In combination with the optional DurstPreparation Station, it is possible to controlone or multiple printers from a centrallocation to streamline the workflow andanhance productivity.

Color Management SystemIntegrated Color Management System withKodak CMS Engine for the Durst UNIX Prin-ter Software. The CMS features an automa-tic and independent color conversion ofPostScript, EPS, PDF, TIFF, TIFF/LZW, BMPand JPEG files (through "Load from Disk")by using independent ICC Profiles. The Pro-files can be generated with any of the ICCcompliant software packages available forMac and Windows computers. This newCMS software will also read ICC profilesembedded in the file for automatic operti-on. The integrated VectorPro Softwaremodule features an automatic and indepen-dent color conversion of Pantone-specifiedcolors in PostScript files during the rippingprocess.
