Model Dell Latitude E6410 Criminal Charges

REPORT: This device was stolen from a behavioral health in-patient residence along with several other personal effects. Because the laptop was outfitted with Absolute Software Theft Recovery Software, it was able to transmit location signals to Absolute Software each time it connected to the Internet, even though the hard drive was wiped clean after the theft. Though it only connected intermittently for several months, the Investigations and Recovery team utilized Absolute Forensic Tools to gather data on the whereabouts of the stolen laptop. The information was dispatched to local law enforcement detectives, who recovered the device the same day the report was received. The suspected user stated that the laptop had been purchased at a local flea market and its origins were unknown.

The thief in this case assumed the tracking and recovery software wouldn’t be able to withstand a wipe of the hard drive, but Absolute’s Persistent Technology led investigators to the stolen laptop.
