Laptop
• A Laptop computer is a portable personal computer with a clamshell form factor, suitable for mobile use. laptop has most of the same components as a desktop computer, including a display, a keyboard, a pointing device such as a touchpad (also known as a track pad) and/or a point stick, and speakers into a single unit. A laptop is powered by main electricity via an AC Adapter and can be used away from an outlet using a rechargeable battery

Laptop Case
A laptop case is made up of three parts
• The display• The case frame• The case
Laptop Processor
To help laptop with heat problem , laptop processor are engineered with the following features
Streamlined connection to the motherboardLower voltage and clock speedActive sleep and slowdown mode
Memory
Memory
SODIMM MicroDimm
SODIMM• 62 millimeters long and 32
millimeters wide• They contain 72 pin (32 bit) and 200
pin for DDR , 200 pin DDR2 and 204 pin DDR3 (64 bit)
Micro DIMM
• 45.5mm long and 30 mm wide• 172 pin for DDR and 214 pin for
DDR2(64 bit)
Storage
• Optical drives• Hard drives
Hard drive
• Laptops don’t have the room for the full sized 3 ½ hard drives that desktop computers use.
• Instead , they use a hard drive with a 2 ½ form factor factor.
• These drives share the same controller as desktop computers, however, they use small connectors.
Optical drive
• Optical drives on laptops are necessary than their counter parts as well.
• Note that the laptop drive is very small, but has all the functionality of a desktop unit.
Input Devices
• Keyboard• Trackball• Touchpad• Point Stick
Keyboard
• Laptop keyboards are built into lower portion of the clamshell.
• They can be removed easily to access peripherals.
• They have reduced set of keys as compared to desktop computers.
Track Ball
• A track ball is essentially the same as a mouse turned upside down.
• Cheap• Track ball picks up dirt and oil form from
operators finger.
Touchpad
• A device that has a pad of touch sensitive material.
• Finger motions
Point stick
• IBM with the Think-Pad series of laptop.
• It uses a small rubber-tipped sticks.
Expansion Card
Express cards Mini Pci Mini
PCIe
Express Cards
• Express cards was launched by PCMCIA • It supported USB and PCI express connectivity for
portable computers.• Express cards adapters are 75 mm in length.
Mini PCI
• Mini peripheral component interconnect.• It is a smaller version of PCI and is designed primarily
for laptops.• It is functionally identical to the PCI version 2.2.• It’s a 32 bit, 33 Mhz bus with 3.3 V powered connection.
Mini PCIe
• They are basically Express cards without the external cover.
• They are 52-pin edge connector
Ports
