LAPTF Newsletter September 2015 Dear Colleagues, I want to thank you for the confidence you placed in my ability to meet the standard and competence of my predecessors. It is the start of a new season and a very challenging and promising landscape is arising ahead. The Board of Directors, Committee Chairs and volunteers join with me in the efforts to make this journey as interesting, educational and rewarding as possible. Please come to our meetings and share your concerns, experiences and knowledge to broaden the unique art of music making. Cordially, Alicia Operti "Rockin' the Keys" 2015: November 7 Remember that our 2 nd annual fundraiser and performance event for students of Livonia Area Piano Teacher Forum members is this fall. The LAPTF is partnering with SandCastles Grief Support Program for Children and Families. Visit www.aboutsandcastles.org for more information about Sandcastles. Forms are available on the LAPTF website and will also be available at the September 9 meeting at Steinway. 2015  State  Conference  Plan  ahead!  The  annual  MMTA  State  Conference  runs  from  Sunday  October  11  to  Tuesday,  October  13.    It  will  be  held  at  the  Hilton  Grand  Rapids  Airport  Hotel  and  is  being  hosted  by  the  Piano  Teachers'  Forum  of  Grand  Rapids.  More  information  is  available  at  http://www.michiganmusicteachers.org/2015-­‐conference-­‐information.    Renew  Your  Membership  Membership  renewals  have  been  distributed  by  the  Music  Teachers  National  Association  (MTNA).    Your  dues  payment  covers  your  membership  to  MTNA,  the  Michigan  Music  Teachers  Association  (MMTA)  and  LAPTF.    All  of  these  memberships  are  listed  on  your  membership  invoice.  If  necessary,  update  your  personal  information  online  or  with  Doris  Edwards.    Remember  Rochelle  Goldman,  long  time  member  of  LAPTF  and  former  president,  passed  away  on  July  31.    Her  contribution  to  the  organization  and  cheerful  spirit  will  be  remembered  by  her  colleagues.    Funeral  services  were  held  on  August  2,  2015.

Accompanist/Organist-­‐  St.  Stephen’s  Episcopal  Church,  Wyandotte,  Mi.  Candidates  need  only  to  be  proficient  on  at  least  one  keyboard  instrument  and  work  well  with  others.  Proficiency  with  other  musical  abilities  is  a  plus  along  with  the  ability  to  arrange  or  choose  appropriate  music  or  guest  musicians  for  special  occasions.        The  position  entails  leading  the  congregation  in  musical  worship  on  Sundays  at  9:00  A.M.  for  a  one-­‐hour  service  each  week.  Please  send  resume’  or  a  response  to  [email protected]

• SATD  Dates:    Levels  1-­‐3  ,  Sunday  March  6  at  Schoolcraft;  Levels  8-­‐10,  Friday,  March  11  at  Steinway  Gallery;  Levels  4-­‐7,  Sunday,  March  13  at  Steinway  Gallery.  

• October  10,  2015  at  2  pm:  Steinway  Society  Family  Concert.  You  can  still  sign  up  to  perform  a  piece  or  two  (up  to  7  minutes  total  playing  time)  by  emailing  Tomoko  at  [email protected].  General  admission  is  $10;  children  under  12,  $5.    

• Oakland  Piano  Teachers  Forum  has  extended  an  invitation  for  January  29,  2016.    Randall  Faber  will  be  speaking  on  “Developing  Musical  Minds,  Hearts  and  Communities.”  Farmington  Community  Library,  10:30  am  –  12:30  pm.
