CHINESE HOUSEApply for living in the Chinese Language House for2021-2022! The Chinese Language House providesyou with a unique opportunity to explore the Chineselanguage and culture in an immersion environment.Every semester, the Chinese Language Houseorganizes one large annual celebration and manyweekly/biweekly Chinese activities.
By living in the Chinese Language House, you will:have easy access to all these events and activities•live with other students who are also passionateabout this language and culture

THE LANGUAGE HOUSE PROGRAMThe Language Houses are a language program,facility, and course option all in one. The LanguageHouse program is managed by the Modern Languagesand Literatures and Asian Studies departments. While inside the house, you will be challenged tospeak only in your foreign language. You can sharegatherings while absorbing knowledge of holidays,pastimes, celebrations, foods, and customs.
ANNUAL EVENTSChinese Lunar New Year CelebrationAs the biggest festival in China, the Chinese LunarNew Year (also known as the Spring Festival) iscelebrated in the Chinese Language House annually inthe spring semester. Every year, students and Chinesefaculty make dumplings from scratch, boil them, andhave their bellies full. On January 15th of the lunarcalendar, students also come together to make theround and chewy glutinous rice dumplings whileguessing traditional lantern riddles to celebrate theLantern Festival.
Mid-autumn FestivalThe Chinese Language House has a reunion when themoon is the fullest of the year in the fall semester.Students savor delicious moon cakes and learn aboutMid-autumn traditions whiling appreciating thebright moon.
CHINESE ACTIVITIESEvery week or two, students have the opportunity toparticipate in a series of Chinese activities thatimproves language competence and raises culturalawareness through experience. Some of the pastactivities include:
Calligraphy: Practice writing Chinese charactersusing brushes and ink. Bring home yourmasterpiece to decorate your dorm room with aChinese touch.

Cooking: Learn how to cook some authenticChinese dishes.
•
Chinese Games: Practice Chinese listening andspeaking skills through games such as Charades,Gestures, Draw Something - you name it.
•
Bubble Tea and Fun: Learn how to order yourfavorite bubble tea with specific requirements inChinese.
•
Chinese Songs: Are you a music lover? Learn somemelodic Chinese songs!
•
Movies: How about a cozy evening with someChinese snacks and drinks while watching aChinese Movie?
•
Even during the pandemic, many activities are stillbeing successfully continued online / in-person(following the Paladin Promise)!
