It all began way back in 2009 whilst the founders of CUPP lived and
worked for many years on the island that brought bubble tea to the
world: Taiwan! After falling in love wi th the country, food, people, and
the national drink, they thought what better way to bring an integral
part of their life back to the UK.
Spending their days sampling Taiwan’s huge variety of bubble tea shops,
f rom small vendors to bubble tea franchises to tea growers in remote
parts of the island. The founders of CUPP learned the true origins and
authentic techniques of bubble tea and trained in a small independent
tea shop in Kaohsiung to perfect this famous tea drink.
CUPP launched in Bristol in 2012 wi th a vision to be a premium bubble
tea brand and make the best, healthiest bubble tea in unique spaces.
We began in a converted Citroen H van which we called Pearl, named
after the famous ingredient in bubble tea; tapioca pearl. We toured
music festivals, events and street food markets across the UK.
Within a year, our popularity grew so quickly, i t was t ime for our Citroen
H van in Bristol to be swapped for a larger unit. We decided on a
shipping container! In 2013, we converted a 20ft shipping container and
later that year, we proudly won an award at the nationally acclaimed
SCEPTRE Awards for our very unique and innovative bubble tea cafe.
We continued to attend music festivals around the UK including unique
festivals like Glastonbury and Wilderness. Success saw us take a second
bubble tea shipping container to the festival fields!
Since our days starting out in a vintage van, we have built CUPP
organically to mult iple stores across the UK. Selling our teas from shops,
shipping containers and kiosks in shopping centres, we’ve always stayed
true to our vision and ethos; a premium bubble tea brand that makes
the best, healthiest bubble tea in unique spaces.

There is a common misconception where people think the term ‘Bubble
Tea’ comes from the chewy balls in the bot tom of the drink. Bubble tea (also
known as pearl mi lk tea, boba tea, boba mi lk tea and bubble mi lk tea) is a
term given to a wide variety of fruity and milk infused teas consisting of tea,
mi lk and chewy tapioca pearls or other toppings that are shaken together
and form a bubbly foam on top of the drink. Bubble Tea can be served iced
or hot meaning it is enjoyed all year round.
The origins of Bubble Tea derived from Taiwan in the 1980s and have
become increasingly popular across the World. The ‘drink that you chew’ has
become a phenomenon in the UK but the market is young compared other
regions like South East Asia and North America.
CUPP is a premium Bubble Tea brand. We make our bubble tea in a
unique way.
From day one, our ethos is to only use the best and freshest ingredients. We
wanted to control what goes into our teas and make the healthiest bubble
teas on the market. That is why we produce our own real fruit purées and
syrups by hand in our centralised production facility.
Not only do we do this, we also use quality loose leaf tea, organic milk,
premium milk substitutes, and fresh fruit and produce to flavour our teas.
We are the only company in the UK to do all of these. We are pioneers and
want to improve the bubble tea industry which is plagued wi th cheap nasty
ingredients like fructose and artificial sugary flavourings and powders
Our brand also reflects our teas. We have created a brand that
showcases our ethos wi th interesting store designs in unique express
cafe/bar environments.
