LANDER, WY ~ WRITE Site Jacqueline Nelson, MD is the primary WRITE preceptor. She is a pediatrician at the IHS clinic at Ft. Washakie. Two days each week will be spent at the IHS Clinics in Ft. Washakie and Arapahoe. You will travel to the 2 clinics at the reservation. Inpatient care is based at Lander Valley Medical Center. • Located at the edge of the Big Horn Mountains, there are 5 family medicine physicians in this group who also cover the ED. This is also a rural surgery selective site.
Torrington, WY – Marion Smith, MD – 307-‐532-‐4131 • This is a large Eastern Wyoming family medicine clinic with
opportunities at the hospital and adjoining nursing home. Cheyenne, WY – UW FM Residency, Doug Parks, MD – 307-‐777-‐7911
• This is a family medicine residency with 16 faculty members and 24 residents. They operate a rural clinic in Pine Bluffs. There are also OB/Gyn, pediatric and psychaitry clerkships in Cheyenne.

• Located near the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Park, you work with 3 internists in Jackson and surrounding communities. There is also a pediatric clerkship in Jackson.

to work with internists in town -‐ lots of hands-‐on outpatient and inpatient opportunities. This site takes 2 students per rotation and is located 40 miles north of Buffalo at the edge of the Big Horn Mountains.

• Wyoming Behavioral Institute is an outpatient and residential facility for adult and child psychiatry. Each rotation takes 2 students. There are also surgery and EM clerkships in Casper.

• Group of four surgeons -‐ this is a very fast paced practice with lots of hands on experience -‐ one student per rotation. There are also psychiatry and ED clerkships in Casper.

truly practice “general” surgery. One surgeon practices in Lander, 25 miles away. Lander is also a WRITE Site. Experience includes ENT, urology and gastroenterology.

surgeons, one orthopedic surgeon and a vascular surgeon. You will get ED experience as well with the on call surgeon. Cody and Powell are 24 miles apart and located near the east entrance of Yellowstone National Park.

Wyoming Rural Clinical Experience
(Wyoming Track)
• Students complete at least four of their 3rd year clinical rotations in Wyoming.
• At least one of the clerkships must take place in a rural Wyoming site other than Casper or Cheyenne.
• All UWSOM students are encouraged to participate in the program.
• A maximum of six students per year may participate.
• A dislocation allowance of $2000 per year will be paid to each student.
