    IBERIAN WOLF WORKSHOP IN CULEBRAS HILLS

    ZAMORA (SPAIN)

    Da 1 LA CORUA /BILBAO-VILLARDECIERVOSGalicia pickup and transfer to Villardeciervos,

    afternoon arrival and overnight at a farmhouse.

    Villadeciervos, is located in the region of the

    Carballeda, in the northwest of the province of

    Zamora, in the autonomous community of

    Castilla and Leon.

    The sobriety and simplicity of rural

    architecture are good excuses to stroll the

    streets and observe carefully every single detail

    as the balconies, doors, windows and shutters,

    knockers, locks, ornaments and a long list of

    period details worth seeing.The forestry and wildlife conservation supports the traditional uses of agriculture, tourism and selective

    rational fully respect the current lifestyle fawns and wolf.

    TRAINING: During our briefing we take a dinner with our naturalists-guide, Antonio Herrero and JC

    de la Fuente, we peer into the best kept secrets of the mountain and we have been looking mammal:

    the wolf, the more representative and legendary predator of the Iberian fauna. As we have localguide Antonio Herrero Carretero, naturalist, photographer and expert on the region and the Iberian

    wolf. Jos Carlos de la Fuente, expert naturalist wildlife trails, that performs a guide and interpreterof nature.

    Day 2 SIERRA DE LA CULEBRA06:00 hours

    We got up early, before dawn, to go out with vehiclesheading into the mountains for our first expected the

    Iberian wolf. We are in the territory of two packs of wolfand has to be wide awake. The wolf is important but donot forget that in the Sierra de la Culebra we have anincredible biodiversity wildlife and flora.

    Before departure had breakfast

    At this time the adult members of the wolf packs, hunt

    and cooperate in raising puppies. The cubs begin tomove with adults, but can still remain in venues hoping

    the rest of the clan returns from foraging. In meetingplaces greatly increase the chances of observing each

    other. Near them have taken deer antlers and their new

    look is much more powerful and elegant, the rut beginsin September and will fight for territory and females.The zeal of the deer, depending on the weather may last

    until mid-October. It is easy to observe raptors like

    golden eagles in their hunting grounds. The deer, but

    good weather night advantage and is usually seen inforest clearings browsed the tender leaves of thebrambles and wild roses ...

    TRAINING: After breakfast interpretive walk through the

    mountains, in the interpret the landscape, recognizing the

    wildlife signs. We will identify all traces, birds, mammals,

    amphibians and reptiles to observe. Special emphasis is

    made in the world of Wolf: territoriality, their steps, as

    differentiate their traces of other species of canids. His

    power, through their droppings.

    ETHNOGRAPHY: We will make a meal of the afternoon

    field and a path for the cuisine of the Sierra, spirits factory

    visit, where we will do a tasting of all products, also one of

    the typical local cafes for a tasting of sweet wine and sweet

    Villardeciervos.

    16:30 pm

    In the afternoon pick up our camera traps to place cameras

    in the mountains. Our photographs serve park rangers to

    monitor the herds. Later we will bet on the mountain to make a

    second waiting for the herd to dusk. At sundown the herds are very

    active looking for signs of prey to feed their offspring, are moments

    to find the setting sun and the silhouettes of wolves in the hills

    19:30 pmReturn to our accommodation to rest and before dinner we will have

    a briefing naturalist for sharing questions, tips and techniques for

    sighting wildlife serve us for the next few days.

    Dinner and overnight

    Day 3 SIERRADELACULEBRA06:00 hours

    Before dawn, guided by one of the park rangers, weshould be on another wolf track to looking for them.After we collect the cameras and back to the house to

    see the contents thereof and take our breakfast.

    ETHNOGRAPHY: After breakfast, accompanied byone of rural agents, we will visit different villages

    where we will live firsthand the wolf relationship

    with their environment and allow us to evaluate thecritical situations this emblem of the Iberian wildlifeand its relationship with the local people

    13:00 pmLunch time

    15:00 pmIn the afternoon we will introduce in the lake

    ecosystem that is home to one of the emblems of themountains: the otter (Lutra lutra), for their tracks

    and try your observation. In some animals wolfecosystem go unnoticed as the case of the otter,genet, deer, roe deer ... but they all have a specialprotection to be protected Natural Park.

    19:00 pm

    TRAINING: Return to the hotel for dinner and do a

    briefing where rural agents intervene and some ofthe volunteers to protect the wolf.

    Day 4 SIERRADELACULEBRA06:00 hours

    Today we will have breakfast early because the day isslightly longer. We trek to reach the upper highland

    areas where wolves step is more difficult to observe.Backpacks loaded with tripods and telescopes we driveto the starting point of the trek. Along the way, ournaturalist guide us introducing anger in different

    ecosystems in the world of the wolf.

    Spend the day at the mountain trail by tracking wolf and

    herds.

    Picnic time

    15:00 pm

    Ethnography: In the afternoon when we go down themountain will accompany one of the pastors in the areaand visit with him their pens, their flocks and discuss the

    problems of the wolf and the shepherds. In this journey we

    will join a biologist naturalist who will talk about thedifferent problems of the wolf and the laws and forms of

    protection that exist in Spain.

    Back to the house for dinner and overnight..

    Day 5 SIERRADELACULEBRAThe last day of our stay in the Sierra de la Culebra

    will conduct various training activities related towildlife watching.

    06:00 hours

    As every day we wake up early observation,monitoring and recording the movements of thewolf packs. During these five days we will get used

    to the five most important observation sites and not

    take care of monitoring.

    After breakfast departure to the naturalist guide for obtaining a workshop of wolf tracks. Thisworkshop will get some wolf tracks will illustrate our field notebook

    15:00 pmTRAININGIn this latest training session, we will mark on

    the map of the sightings Parkland andfrequencies as well as all the incidents that wehave had in our management of outward nature.

    19:00 pmReturn to the lodge and farewell dinner.

    Day 6 SIERRADELACULEBRA-VALLADOLID/GALICIA9:00 time transfer to airport, way train in Valladolid o by car to Galicia for a final departure

    CONTRIBUTION TO THECOMMUNITYThe Sierra de la Culebra has special status asan area of interest and Natural Park and as

    such is funded funding to carry out their

    projects. These funds currently insufficient totrack the Wolf and conservation.

    ECOWILDLIFE travel provide invaluabledates to this project, with the managing body

    of the park and the surrounding population

    that help to safeguard the habitat of theIberian wolf and therefore their

    conservation.

    All data and pictures are delivered in areport indicating park management agency,dates, facts, incidents, observations andespecially abnormalities observed in the

    seven packs of wolves observed.

    Similarly in our management Villardeciervos

    space tourist and the Sierra de la Culebra are

    generating social awareness towards thewolf and its relationship to tourism to

    safeguard their

    survival and prevent human depopulation ofrural areas as vulnerable.
